the secret cheese is that rare candies completely solve your money issues, whenever getting them doesn't freeze your game for whatever reason
basically keeping things properly invested wasn't too hard
early game my mvps were probably like dondozo and phanpy/donphan
getting dondozo from paldea egg definitely helped with some stuff
a normal run probably won't have dondozo since the earliest you can access it normally is like after erika or something
i didn't try it out in my run, but apparently hoothoot evolves at level 16 in rad red
so post-brock, noctowl can make a decent early game mon
in hc you can get it before brock, even

Items and move choices weren't optimal because I cba to optimise them Moth was never used and should've been something else(shoulda listened to argor smh) Moth also had charcoal because I had forgotten I had booster, only real moth use was sacking against salamence double edge so it gets range in meowscarada sucker punch
