Not a professional by any means, but the important thing to note is what your game plan is and build around it

Blitzing through the enemy? You would want plenty of mons with high atk and sp. atk as well as speed. The waiting game? Def, sp. def and HP would be a wise guess. Additionally, accounting for abilities will be vital

and you need to balance your coverage, and weaknesses

A few moves are also vital depending on the battle format

For example, double battles has Protect be an incredible move

Normally it’s not much in a single battle format since there’s no point to defense for the sake of defense

doesnt matter if your strat makes a maushold that hits like a truck, if they can kill you with a mach punch

or any ghost

But a single use of protect can waste a move or group of attacks aimed at your mon that used protect

Most important aspect however is to take note of your mons strengths and bring out the best of them. Most any mon (with a few exceptions, and even those can still be chosen if you really want to) can have the best brought out of them, so don’t be afraid to try something new

There is a whole slew of silly and yet highly effective strategies you can utilize even with mons that almost never see use in official events

Like, a Sudowoodo that can just keep using Head Smash, a 150 bass power Rock type moves that normally would deal 1/2 of the damage dealt to the user, but with Rock Head, all of that doesn’t matter

Or Greedent, a fat squirrel that is just ruthless with a combination of it’s low speed ensuring it goes first when Trick Room is in effect, as well as it’s access to the Belly Drum move, and it’s ability increasing the recovery of berries used

Gargnacl singlehandedly got me through most of the game while spamming potions lol

Just managed to get through Clemont in my XY hardcore randomizer nuzlocke.
Not sure why GF made his highest level mon only level 37 while the Team Flare Admin battle right before that had her at level 38.
Went in with only 2 usable mons cuz the rest were overleveled. Thought i could just cheese him with No Guard Fissure Kadabra but it died on 2nd mon, and i had to 1v5 him with Hippowdon.
