OK. So I might have some plot points set out
One such thing might involve a noble house located in a part of a region that is known for its farmlands be the target of an attack by some unknown individuals, seeking some sort of MacGuffin, and the protagonist having business with them since they learned the details of such a plot
The thieves goals might not be for mayhem but to just simply obtain this important item, which I'll have to decide later. In any case, with this sort of part I might introduce the players to the local lord of the area who used to be a simple respected rancher until his own origins came to light (And yet isn't the PC), his stern but well-meaning butler/vassal/whatever who ends up aiding the PC in their attempt to thwart the attackers, and our resident big bad's number two, an enigmatic man in armor who soooo isn't the Black Knight.
Vassal, after the assault is being carried out while the PC is still investigating, helps them break past the various mooks trying to stop them from getting to the room this item is being carried in (Most likely aiding them in multi-battles, likely with a mon like Indeedee), and as it turns out, the Big Bad's #2 ends up arriving just in time to initiate a scripted battle with Vassal. That Vassal and his Indeedee just get wrecked in the ensuing battle with him and his... I guess I dunno what would be cooler to show off here, but point being is, it's a battle that Vassal can't win.
And I'm not gonna subject the player to this. If it's one thing I hate, it's trying to put a player into situations they cannot hope to win, so I'm just having Vassal take the L instead, and warn them not to challenge this knight.
They make off with the item after all, and it will be a bit before they can recover it.
