It doesn't seem to matter what you do to the enemy after you defeat them, whether you successfully or unsuccessfully destroy/arise. Even if you just leave them there and don't do anything, there seems to be a chance for the pity counter to go up on it's own immediately after you defeat the enemy. It's almost as if THE GAME IS AUTO ROLLING YOUR CHANCES OF ARISING EVERY TIME YOU DEFEAT AN ENEMY REGARDLESS OF PLAYER INTERACTION, and using that for pity. Just a working theory though

There's a bug that pity system reset even after the single rank up pity

The game is choosing whether or not the arise/rank up will be successful as soon as you defeat the enemy. It then adds to/resets pity if arise/rank up is successful. This happens even if you don't try to arise/destroy, as I have seen my pity go up immediately after defeating an enemy

This means that pity for any unit can suddenly reset everytime you defeat that enemy if the game rolls a rank up or double rank up

also double rank up pity has been activating on the 4th rank up instead of the 5th for some reason

It also determines arise chance the moment you kill an enemy, potentially adding to or resetting pity even if you don't try to arise. It probably rolled a rank up for the enemy you killed, granted double rank up pity, and reset your counter as soon as you defeated the enemy
