hi everyone! not sure if i can just drop a link to my reddit post, so here’s the text. it’s about ideas for making the culture victory in civ 7 more exciting. the post already has almost 70k views and lots of positive comments, so clearly people care.

☆ About the Ages ☆

i’m not a fan of adding another Age. many players finish games right after Antiquity, and Exploration/Modern are kinda boring. instead, civs could “modernize” in the final Age:

✦ Qing → Modern China

✦ Colonial America → USA

✦ French Empire → French Republic

you could change graphics and bonuses after fully completing the civic/tech tree, then unlock a new tree based on your victory type. this also solves the issue of players not wanting their civ to change too much.

☆ My Ideas for Fixing Culture Victory ☆

to simplify and make it more fun, let's borrow from Economic Victory. say you need 500 Tourism Points before building the World’s Fair.

ways to earn points:

❀ Codices & Relics from previous Ages: +1 point each (encourages early collection)

❀ Artifacts: +10 points each

❀ Natural Wonders in Resort Towns: +10, Mountains: +5

❀ Modern Wonders: fixed points, giving a reason to build them

❀ World Games Project: available in cities with Stadium + Radio Station, +5 points per Ally when completed

❀ Celebrity System: recruit pop culture icons like Marilyn Monroe, Bruce Lee, Yuri Gagarin to gain points in specific areas

☆ Why This Works ☆

this system gives multiple strategies: build Resort Towns for Tourism, hunt Artifacts across the map, or focus on City Projects. each civ can play differently, making every culture game unique, strategic, and fun.

Big fan of projects here. Makes it feel in line with a science victory.

I'm not sure about how postmodern atomic/information age should be implemented but I'd definitely love to see a return of tourism being relevant to culture victory. I like the idea.

I'd also like to suggest to make happiness relevant to culture victory in some way. Maybe culture lets you earn tourists from other civs, while happiness could maintain your domestic tourists. If both your culture and happiness is high, you might even earn some migrants.

Other things that could be relevant to tourism are airports and the internet

It'd be cool but it's unlikely they'd make a mechanic revolving entirely around movies. A lot of them are copyrighted and it'd also be hard to represent many non-western cultures

I think the most likely implementation for the 4th age would be great works of art (which can include any form like stories, paintings, sculptures, music, and maybe even a few movies)

I adore your suggestion

yeah, i also prefer real artworks in the game, but considering the age system, the earliest art in the modern age can only be from the 17th century onward. that’s why i thought maybe we could use actors/singers/athletes who are widely known by basically everyone. that way they wouldn’t feel like great people tied to a specific country.

i also like the idea of placing buildings for different projects in opposite parts of the tech tree, so you can’t streamline both paths easily, especially if your science output is low. that forces you to decide whether you want to focus on producing great people or on city projects like the world games.

I would like tourism points to be the culture victory. I think thats a great change that works in the current framework pretty well too. The complexity would just be in deciding what does and doesnt give points. Which would end up being far more complicated than the economy path
