Look, once I have my relics, I just want my missionaries to go forth and spread the gospel, or whatever. I can generally train 1 per turn on Marathon speed in a single dedicated city by the end of the Exploration Age, and it's not uncommon for me to have 50+ Missionaries at a time. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT'S HOLY, please add an "auto-convert" button and free me from micromanagement hell. Seriously, I have to click through, like 50 turns of 50 missionaries (spacebar-click; spacebar-click) if I want to convert the world to the one true religion. Just make it stop.

I think I've seen that someone noticed Religion Founder bonuses have a cap on the yields they provide, so there is little-to-no benefit to continue spamming your religion at some point. So in some sense the "micromanagement hell" is one you're imposing upon yourself 😉, and the power to make it stop is somewhere between the keyboard and the chair 😁.
Auto-convert in the sense that you're looking for (just convert anything/everything) would be challenging to implement, and very niche usage (other people may want it to try to only convert targets relevant to their reliquary belief)
Having a mechanic be irrelevant is worse than it being demanding imo. Not a proper solution for the problem, design-wise. Change is needed.
Yup, they've officially announced religion will get future design changes
I wish they’d add a missionary menu like the trade menu. If we can’t have lightning fights there’s not much point in having the player manually move them
Yeh I think "automation" is a bit of a bandaid
If the game is encouraging/allowing/tricking you into buying 50 missionaries, then that itself is the problem.
If they removed the "charges" from missionaries, but it's prohibitively expensive to have more than say... 10. That would be a good solution maybe?
They could even make Missionaries have Levels, like a one-age Commander. And their "level" makes them better at exploring/converting etc. Maybe they get XP each time they convert a settlement.
