The leaders all play the same way and I don't feel any difference between any of them while playing. even the build order and research are the same to start with, you have to do everything in the same order, always, and it doesn't make a difference if you do differently...that's sad because I absolutely love the game.

Odd I have not felt this at all, and I even feel more variety in this game than in previous

I would agree that i feel like the first 1/3 of the game is identical for me no matter who i play, but i feel like the leader and civ variety is actually pretty good. I think the problem you have is with the victory conditions and legacy paths. This is where the game shoehorns you into playing a specific way to garner success. I wish they would just add a sandbox mode with no age transitions, no civ switching, and maybe a random crisis or two throughout the span of the game. Just pick a leader, pick a civ, and play it from antiquity to modern. I feel like adding this as a separate game option is not that crazy.

I actually think it's normal to stick to one type of game. In CIV6, I always did the same thing: rush to unlock the archers, then run around the campus, get the eureka points, etc. Anyway, even though this sounds boring, I really enjoyed it. CIV7, of course, also has its "good" practices that are common to start a game, but I don't feel like it's anything new.

(Just obv just advancing through the tech tree as that’s linked to age mechanic etc)

The leaders do all blend in together; their bonuses are way too inconsequential and bland

honestly the best best solution (in another game) would be if the age didnt "end" so abruptly but you slowly transitioned into the civ that you picked, so like the crises every few turns you "lose" one of the antiquity civ's characteristics and you adopt one from the exploration's. Do that a few a times until you are completely the other civ and all what's left from the previous are the traditions. that way the different ages wouldnt break the immersion and wouldnt feel so abrupt.

what does slowly transitioned mean? Like you keep your unique Greek units while you're now playing Normans with also their unique units?
You have Religion still going in Modern?
You're traking both the Antiquity legacies and Exploration legacies at the same time?
