In one of the dev diaries I think a goal was to get a larger portion of users finishing games. I think the design accomplished all it could. I don't feel compelled to finish the last age, but only because it is the last age. If there was a forth age I would finish the modern age every time and not finish the the new last age. Being way ahead is fun in the penultimate age, but boring in the final one. So I hope that if you see people not finishing their games that you don't interpret that as a we wouldn't get much of a boost in engagement from adding a future age to the game.
#Finishing the last age is boring, but mostly because you've already won

It would be interesting to see statistics not just on "finished ages" in V/VI/VII but also on "played ages", i.e. now I have some incentive to play Modern because it has a DEDICATED civilization. (also finishing games isn't a problem for me, but that's my pathology)
I just got a deity game through explo and cannot be bothered to slog through modern for the win again. Its easy but so tedious
I'm finding it hard to engage with the modern age too. It might help if the AI stopped playing a generalist here and was singularly focused on the victory condition they're closest to
It doesn't fix the problem that you largely don't need to engage with the game to win on science or economy. Shift enter until your requirements are met
Yeah I find the AI (on Viceroy) is very timid in the last age - this is the time to put pressure on the player and challenge for victory.
Agree, the last turns to wait for completing the ivy project or what ever, takes for ever, all though one can just "force end turn" but still a lot of clicks if one incist on completing all actions.
Ok but to be fair the boredom window has gotten a lot shorter for me than on civ 6 where I spent 100s of turns just to see the victory animation
Suggested Fix:
Catastrophic crises! Like in Stellaris, I want to be fighting for my life to make it to the end of the game.
I just don’t think this is the last age yet 👀
Which is why the tech feels so disjointed toward the end etc
Probably not, but as a whole, I think Crises are not really meeting their intended purpose.
They're supposed to level the playing field a bit, but right now they're just a nusiance
O some of them can be crippling imo
I find it hilarious to see the ai have nearly 0 points in all categories at the end, it felt like they were getting near completing legacy paths in the previous ages, but in the modern age the ai basically sat on its hands collecting a few artifacts and I rolled over them and got a military victory. It was just so underwhelming, considering I was able to do all this mostly before seeing any of the last upgrades of the various military units.
