i would try out every weapon. in other games i never really main a weapon. it all comes down to my mood what i want to play

i think im similar! i always try all the weapons at least once. but once i find one i really like, i tend to stick to it and try to really master it

Never main. I have preferences, yeah, but always play with everything.

for monster hunter i am a longsword main 🤣

I would main one weapon and then, once I've mastered one, I would switch between the rest of them.

a sequential approach!

Hmm

I'd say it depends. I do like trying out different options, but once i find something that works for my playstyle, i tend to stick with that

And it also really depends on how it plays in a game. Like Valheim is great for 1h axe + shield combat, other styles are pretty meh

But for a totally different example, my go to gun in Battlefield 3/4 was the G3 with a sniper scope. It has the highest single shot damage, which makes it a decent sniper, but you can also go into a building and do full auto. Objectively speaking, it's absolute trash compared to other guns. But it is fun and that's what matters to me

I definitely main one weapon at a time, and if I am lucky, I found the one I love using most on my first try 😂 I love the feeling of "mastering" something before taking something new.

also sometimes when something is just super unbalanced but fun, you cant help but go with it, even if it's not your usual style bloblul

I like trying a bunch of different ones until I find one I like, but once I find a good fit, I tend to use it consistently. >.> Unless there's like, keybinds involved and then I tend to accidentally switch sometimes lolol

True that

Another way different example is The Division 2. Can't comment on it's current state, but this is relevant to how it was the last time i played

That game has an incredible amount of variety in builds for a looter-shooter game. Many different armor sets, lots of gun types with a bunch of different special effects, exotic weapons that are truly unique, etc

But no matter what you tried, you couldn't get anywhere near the effectiveness of a basic rifle. Even after they were nerfed pretty heavily, they still ended up being the go to pick

Because sure, i had a sniper build that could oneshot bosses with some fancy gameplay tricks. I tried it for a bit, seemed like a lot of fun!

...but then i remembered that i can do the same thing much faster with a rifle and it also doesn't take any skill. You just hold down the fire button, aim roughly where the enemy is and it dies

And that lingering thought kept me from playing a lot of fun builds. Because why would i do that if i can just use a rifle instead and be 100 times better

It really depends. Normally at first I trying out different weapons unless it's weapon like scythe that I normally like to use in game. But once I find a weapon I like, I usually tend to use only that one.

I played games where you could have used two different weapon at the same time that did different things. That was pretty cool.

I typically like to specialize in one weapon but become proficient in all weapons for when my main weapon won't work.

Not exactly main, since I think in loadout way rather than just weapons and I switch my loadouts often enough, but I do end up using some loadouts more than the others. Though for monster hunter I do main hunting horn over other weapons, it just feels way too good to me

My tendency is to main, but I try to give every weapon a fighting chance before I pick my favorite. It's really difficult when the first weapon I try just clicks.

I generally main a weapon because I’m not very good at most games so I tend to do better when I can practice with just one

Switch a lot, but I wish I could try the weapons at different levels(?- if we have gear increasing in level n as used, n developing/evolving with xp gained like in some games) n go to low level zones to try, to get a hang of it n experience it if I've been with my main weapon till like that certain level.

It'd be really nice if that was possible in case, adjusting gear n stuff to fight at a lower level - especially weapon level if that's a thing cuz there's multiple weapons n it's nice to get a hang of it in easier areas before trying fighting with it at higher levels sometimes ?

Unless it's just buying different gears at different fixed levels, in which case, can just switch that.

For me it's not really about the weapon but the playstyle, I prefer fast movement, evading, doge roll instead of blocks etc. So I tend to pick weapons that support that.
Big fan of dual wielding, double daggers and the like for all the stabby goodness. ⚔️

oh so you're 100 going to be picking up the treasure hunter class, huh? 😄

High chance, I can NOT avoid any shinies/gatherables so sounds like my class.^^

Im on the EXACT same page as @torpid venture! If dual daggers aren't avalible i go down a list of: any weapon with a chain attachment!> cestus/ fist type weapon> great sword> axe> bo staff.

I am a one-weapon-pleb. But! I like feeling as if (and even better if the mechanics reflect it...) I can get better at that one thing than someone doing 5 different things.

if the game is mechanically dense or difficult or both, i'll definitely focus on one weapon or build. but i love being able to mix it up if it isn't setting me back to square one

I'm a constant switcher, I wanna try out as many different playstyles as i can

I just find whatever weapon I enjoy and usually stick with it for a long time. Not always, but I tend to enjoy slow, heavy hitting weapons, ones with multiple stances (think switch axe) or spell casting weapons like tomes or staves.

Try out whatever is strongest at the moment and see what I like

Yeah, typically one at a time. I want to really know a weapon before trying another, and even then it's hard sometimes to make that switch.

I typicaly find the one i enjoy the most and stick too it. And then later when i cant kill a boss or an enemy, i change to the objectivly "Best" one

I generally main one weapon per character but more often than not I usually have 1 melee weapon and 1 ranged
Unless the game has this sort of mechanic were every weapon is good for different things then I change depending on what I'll be doing
V Rising has this kind of mechanic were the axes and the mace are used for choping wood and mining but also combat and axes are good against tree ants and the mace is good for golems
Spear is good for creatures and the scythe is good against undead
Now the negative thing is that you'll want to have almost every weapon on hand just in case but I like having to switch things up depending on what I'm planning to do

i tend to play mages or healers especially if that class is available so most times i rely on magical attacks but i do like staves but mostly only as a backup for when my magic runs out.

If you could play with more than one weapon, that would be interesting, two at most.

But I wouldn't mind playing with just one. It's super interesting to see each boss receive more damage from a certain weapon, like taking down a boss with a hammer, just a hammer. You could then use a series of combos using weapons and mechanics. That's fun, put that in.
