#Add ons for monthly and yearly plans

In our site we offer both monthly and yearly plans on our site.

For both plans, we also offer add-on seats.

The cost is $10 extra per additional seat beyond the default 10 included seats.

So, should we create two separate add-ons, one for the monthly plan and one for the yearly plan?

For the monthly plan, one add-on seat costs $10, so we can set up that add-on with $10 pricing.

For the yearly plan, should we create a new add-on with $120 pricing for the full year, or can the same add-on be used, with Dodo Payments automatically charging $120 based on the customer’s billing cycle?

I have one more doubt.

Suppose a customer is on a 12-month yearly plan, and 3 months have already been completed. If the customer adds one add-on seat in the 4th month, will Dodo Payments automatically charge only for the remaining months of the subscription? In other words, will it automatically prorate the amount and charge only for the remaining period of their plan?

# wise tangle In our site we offer both monthly and yearly plans on our site. For both plans,...
  • Add-ons are price-specific, not cycle-aware

    • You need separate add-ons for monthly and yearly.
    • Dodo won’t auto-convert $10 → $120 based on billing cycle.
  • Setup

    • Monthly plan → add-on priced at $10 / month
    • Yearly plan → add-on priced at $120 / year
  • Proration behavior

    • Yes, Dodo automatically prorates add-ons.
    • If added in month 4 of a yearly plan:
      • Customer is charged only for the remaining 8 months
      • Example: $120/year → ~$80 charged (prorated)
  • No manual calculation needed — handled by the billing system automatically.
