Ah, will admit...never got into it. Looked really good...and tried to get into it....but just couldn't for some reason. I've heard good things about it though. Either way, can't really speak on that one. What I can speak on is Tarkov had like no filtered matchmaking and it was the most fun I've ever had in a FPS. Going into a match in Factory with a buddy who was naked with a pistol and him showing up with an absolute full endgame kit because he shot the guy through the visor of his helmet....you wouldn't get moments like that with sbmm....no sbmm allows for the epic moments to happen. That's what I'm talking about with the randomness. Is it brutal on the newer players? Yes...but the genre isn't supposed to be kind and happy and "fair". It's brutal, rough, confusing, anxiety inducing....it's not a game for the general player. It's a game that forces you to be better, to seek out how you can improve.

It's loosely based on lvl to a degree....but it's not the only thing taken into account. Also, season level is not an indicator of skill at all.

But that's just it...gear has a much higher effect on how you perform in a match. Higher shields is more survivability. That's just a fact....better guns, the right implants, the right cores. They all affect how you play. You're not as aggressive when on a free kit as you are with a full purple kit. So, gear mismatch absolutely affects skill and visa versa. Let me be clear here though.... I'm not against SBMM because I want to "stomp noobs", I very much enjoy extended gunfights where me and the other person are flanking, pushing, retreating, healing, all of that. I love those moments. I also very much enjoy the fear and anxiety I get from thinking there's a corner camper around the next corner waiting to pop me and thinking how scared and anxious he is hearing my footsteps creep along. I enjoy knowing that the only reason I'm coming out these runs alive and with the loot I have is due to my OWN skill and decision making, not because SBMM decided I had a bad run and should be matched with lower skilled players, or that I suddenly had a good run and should be matched with absolute Chad's who are sprinting around everywhere snapping their aim like the fucking terminator.

For example in hunt the rating is 1-6 stars. As a premade team your rating is averaged and can have half stars but you cannot. If you are going solo into trios you get paired down. If you are a random fill group you also get a light pair down.
Your star rating is just straight elo on kills, as a 5 star if I kill a 3 star my rating doesn't really move, if I kill several 6s it does

End of round stats affects your next rounds matchmaking. Taking those stats as hard numbers of your skill. In my experience the only other significant impact on match making is the currently selected quest, as match making appears to intentionally create matches with players with the same contested contracts.

I can't say one way or another on the contract based definitively. I don't THINK it does, I think it feels like that due to the player curve of where the majority of the player base is at in the progression. Like at the start of the season you'll see A LOT of people on the same contracts as you, but as the season progresses and the progression getting stretched out, you won't see it as much.

I could see that, but I actually didnt have many lobbies where my random team mates had the same contracts early on, its mainly recenntly when doing the sekeguchi main quests I have had this experience. That being said its possible many players left those contracts to the end too

And experience doesn't always equate skill. Like season lvl is not a basis for a skilled player. See it all the time with people complaining about getting terrible teammates on squad fill but they're higher level.

Oh they did....I can say that for sure...those contracts are annoying and most people wanted to finish the other ones first for the more relevant upgrades. SekGen has some decent ones and some that are really good...but for the most part they aren't that needed early on.

I agree that it doesn't equate to skill in the mmr sense, but the same person at level 1 as when they're level 50 will have an improvement in skill, by virtue of experiennce. It stands to reason that the average level 50 will be more skilled than the average level 10, even if many of those levels 50s are worse than a few of those level 10s.

There are pros and cons to both, in my opnion the best of both worlds is what we have now with ranked, but I would like for ranked maps to have better loot than normal to really maximize the sweatiness in ranked. I wouldn't mind something like friendly fire in ranked to maximize the difficulty, while leaving normal maps the way they are so that fill queues don't become unbearable.

I wouldn't say up the loot pool in ranked. Personally, I don't like the idea of ranked in this genre....but I understand the draw and why it's there. Which is why I choose to not participate. It's a personal thing, and people enjoy it...so they can go have fun, and I'll stick to my normal games. I would go as far to say that if you want something sbmm....go play ranked. It achieves, essentially, the same thing. Matching you with like skilled players in your rank.

Well, the experimental queues are literally just Bungie having us help them out with balancing and development. Which I think is awesome. Like the sponsored kit only queue was for them to gather data on how the early game loot economy is. How quickly people can go from a sponsored kit to being able to clear the Lockdown event(in an extremely watered down explanation). So they can balance out loot distribution. Lockdown can give some REALLY good loot, especially early game. It's not about making it an actual mode for people to play.

I find using guns in it alot easier than most other shooters too

For whatever reason aiming in apex legends is significantly harder
