marathon def has more of a comp vibe, especially when you try to down or get downed. It doesnt hurt as much as arc, and it isnt normal like comp shooters, its in the middle. It def sucks sometimes to get downed, but it doesnt drain all your motivation, because you know its KOS

i think marathon really just needs more things to keep less competitive players engaged long term. Which i think they already have with the seasonal drops

twice a season seems reasonable imo to keep people engaged and happy

a story mode would be cool cus the game has such a fascinating world too but that's more of a dream and not something actually needed at all

a pve semi hord mode against a bunch of uesc could be fun perhaps though for those who aren't as interested in the pvp

like salmon run for splatoon (splatoon affectively has 3 major modes, the story, the pve salmon run and all the many pvp modes)

I don’t like extraction shooters but there’s enough to this game in terms of feel, aesthetics, and cool background storytelling that has kept my attention, can’t say if I’ll keep playing past the first server wipe though

Chapter one: A Glitch in the consolations.

I remember a story my mom once told me when I was a kid. About how our world once had two moons, they used to dance with the stars and glisten at night. It was beautiful, well at least it was a long time ago. It was stolen from us, mom said her name used to be Deimos, but they changed her into something else. She was carved up by the corps and UESC, turned her into the biggest ship humanity had ever made. Her new name was the Marathon, and she was a new pioneer for humanity. Made to go on a massive 300-year journey to Tau Ceti 4. But now the ship is dead, my home world’s moon is dead, and now I see her corpse every day floating in an alien sky. But that's just a story, one of probably thousands across this cursed planet, but what do I care. I'm just a runner. I’m just the vandal.

Thunder clapped in the distance as the rain poured down. Water churned up the loose soil cascading down the mountains. The wind of the storm whistled between the dead trees and the colourful wreaks. Gunshots fired, the sounds cascading around the colonies' corpse. She ran through a hallway within the building with UESC bots chasing her. They fired and she slid into cover. A deep blue blood flowed out of a hole in her left shoulder; she pulled out a device without even flinching in pain and calmly pointed it at her wound letting it fire a quick beam. Her fibres and silk flinched, rapidly spasming and growing, closing her back up. She threw away the now depleted device and checked her pistol.

It was empty, she sighed and said, “damn it vaults depleted.” She through the gun away and said to herself, “let's see if this will do the trick” before she popped out of cover. Her right hand split in two and a bright ball of light rapidly grew between it before being launched from her cannon. The energy sphere flew right into the trailing bots; it hit them and erupted into a churning sphere of death and sheering gravity. The bots were pulled into it and shredded to bits leaving nothing more than a slurry of parts and blue behind.
