The knife not caring if you're a white or purple shield is kind of weird. And to add to your point, the people camping in Dire Marsh have WSTR shotguns too, and sit in the corner and wait for the first pinata to turn the corner for them to kill.

Personally, it needs a better recoil pattern if its going to be dogshit in damage and range. Attachments can fix the intensity and the aim assist issues (compared to other weapons), but the pattern is basically sideways

The issue is mostly that either it's cramped corridors or open field for most of the maps. And they don't do well in either. And repeater reload is ass

All this Hardline hate bruh. I’ve had more consistent luck with it over the Repeater just by sheer firepower. Repeater fire rate is too low for up close but Hardline can suppress enough for teammates to flank.

Honestly, don't focust too much on exfil or not. Try to learn the systems and what noise you can and can't make.
Marathon is very noise focussed so other runners might fidn you easily if you run around too much, etc.

So, the thing about these games....they are EXTREMELY punishing. They are unforgiving, ruthless, and absolutely brutal. The biggest tips I can give...being somewhat new, run sponsored kits and Rook runs(I would suggest Sponsored due to the world of Rooks being what it is at this state in the wipe, it won't help you with the knowledge you need). Run sponsored kits and learn the POI's, where they are, listen for gun fights and shots and make mental notes of where they are, check your map to see if they coming from a possible POI. Is it a few shots or an all out battle? Don't worry too much about getting out...just learn the maps. With it being more than halfway through the wipe, you're more likely to come across some kitted players and that will only get worse as the wipe progresses. If you do get into a gun fight, analyze it afterwards. Try to learn paths and routes, flanks, learn the various UESC, and DO NOT underestimate them.

number one tip to not die: just. run. the. fuck. away.

Just run away, you can always just LEAVE. (ok pedantic pals I know sometimes there's an objective you need to get to, you get cornered, etc but for the most part, yeah you can choose to just disengage to live)

Once you ran away and are safe you can figure out what you want to do.

This advice is extra effective for solo since you don't have to agree with your buddies to run away.

These are TACTICAL shooters....so sprinting everywhere(while it may for work content creators who are putting 8+ hrs a day into the game) will only give you away and put you at a disadvantage. Sound is THE biggest thing in these games. Learn to know what footsteps sound like(UESC vs Runner, Sprinting vs Walking, etc), learn what shots sound like at various distances, things like that....everything is information and information wins runs.

UESC robots will kill you, you gotta respect them too. Also running from them works too. Remember, you don't have to always fight.

Yep....pick your fights. If it doesn't feel right, run and flank. This also plays into some more advanced tech of baiting and mind games.

1/8 runs exfil is mighty fine, especially the early contracts rarely require exfilling and can be done in several runs so you gain faction rep and game knowledge even if you don't exfil.

Faction levels give nice amounts of gear so losing stuff on runs isn't much of a problem either imho

I'm an old man now - I've played my fair share of all the different flavors of shooters, but I like extraction shooters the most like this (or Gray Zone Warfare or Arc Raiders).

I like that I don't have to have the best aim and reflexes to win fights if I can be semi clever at times. The TTK being low is useful for that.

@vital hollow As long as you're enjoying yourself those 2 to 3 times a week then yeah, I mean the learning curve isn't crazy crazy and a lot of it you just pick up after you die - if you're willing to actually think about why you died.

But yeah this game I've felt has nailed a lot of the things I enjoy about shooters in general not just extraction ones.

For me, Marathon is extremely fun and addicting but it’s very hardcore and definitely caters to that audience more than anything. You’ll have extreme highs and brutal lows but I can’t stop playing, this is the game for me but it’s not for everyone. Look around YouTube and see what the game is about and if it sounds and looks like something for you, definitely give it a shot.

This game is not extremely hardcore. it has a low time to kill and probably pretty high skill ceiling all things considered ..., but it showers you with free loot if you just do contracts, is very accessible for navigation as far as figuring out where you are on the map and where you need to go, and has a relatively friendly player base if not unforgiving/bloodthirsty (which is fine the game does basically tell you to trust nobody and kill everyone on sight).

Anyways, just my opinion. Not trying to throw shade. Game is difficult, you're right about that. And lots to learn.

So 144 hours a season. I’d say that’s fine. If you only play twice a week for four hours though… I wouldn’t recommend it.

But if you're fine with like getting ~20 hours of enjoyment and maybe 10 hours of frustration out of the $40 buy in... then it might still be worth it only playing twice a week for four hours.

The first ~30 levels are the best in Marathon in my experience. But after that you need to know the maps, spawns and where firefights often develop.

How I'd describe it is like this, Marathon has an early game, mid game, and late game.

Early on nobody in the lobby really knows what they're doing. So it's fun for everyone.

Midgame some people are starting to optimize and go in with the sole purpose of killing other people. Some people are just there to loot and chill. If you're the type to optimize, you're gonna have fun gunning down clueless people. If you're not, well some days will be bad, some days good.

Lategame is when everyone has nothing else to do but kill other people, and they know the spawns and the maps and everything. If you haven't learned the game enough by this point, you're not going to have a whole lot of fun.

You need to understand how the map is played out in Dire Marsh. Around ~13 mins in the map is thinned out. You're dying early on because you don't get how crews typically move on the map and how the hotspots change over time. You can take your time. Trust me it'll be quicker than banging your head against the wall.

Say you spawn West Gate right? There's a big tower there that connects to the top of quarantine. Sit on that tower for ~3 minutes. You will know whether there are people BOTH quarantine and maintenance.

Then you can loot and do the event in quarantine while someone is perched at the top looking at maintenance to see if people are rotating over.

You clear the map like that.

Intersection is fine since there's a ton of AI there.

Anyone who spawned AI Uplink is dead by the time you go there. Or they went Complex -> Bio Research -> Greenhouse or Algae.

So circle the map that way. By the time you reach Bio Research around 10 mins nobody is there.

I'm in US Central and have no issue finding a match in less than 3 minutes at any time of day, I would look into any network issues you might be having. Usually a strict or moderate NAT will cause unusually long times or just failed connection outright

you gotta upgrade your melee damage (arachne) and you can kill the smaller bots with the knife pretty easy. The bigger dudes I would not suggest trying to fight them with a knife ... I say this from experience.

It's definitely faster or slower for some players just based on how you play and what contracts you're chasing and all that jazz. I don't think 6 weeks to max out upgrades is an eternity, you'll have them maxed for basically the same amount of time it took you to get them there if you play for rest of the season

I think it's based on your season lvl. Higher lvls also get higher rarity salvage. From what I've gathered from others talking about it.

yes thank god for that change, I was hoping they upped the solo bonus because you really do miss out on stuff from the trios. I mean I like playing solo, it's deifnitely a little different kind of game. More PVE I think, PVP is much less forced in solo for sure. PVP is usually also just brutal and quick I've found in 1v1 more than trios in my experience.

I was having so much trouble with the last Unsanctioned Hostilities contract using the Bully.
