The way I kinda see it is that it's almost a detriment to play anything but assassin solo, and sometimes it's a detriment to have an assassin in your team. Only sometimes.

Their playstyle really only benefits them outside of some choice encounters that make people space out because they don't want to run into smoke and possibly a shotgun. If they lose, or their teammates lose- they can just run away and don't really need the support of a Triage or the pings of a Recon. They can just go invis.

Prime works on everyone. The only time it "doesn't" work is Signal Jammer, and Signal Jammer only disguises you as UESC. If you're out of position or look suspicious, it doesn't matter if you don't have the runner icon on you.

The issue is that too many assassins play defensively (ratting, smoking and running off which can actually fuck up your own team if it’s not coordinated, and hiding while invis mid-fight) but they have fantastic offensive capabilities that most of the idiot assassin randoms just use incorrectly.

Smoke/invis has capabilities to zone enemies and set up good flanks but half of them just think “i’ll invis and knife him!” then get shot to pieces because everyone can see you partially when you’re running at a guy with your knife out.

That’s a common thing I run into: dudes in a discord voicechat who don’t have game chat enabled but still go in Squad Fill.

I usually just draw unnecessary attention to us when that happens to bring enemies to us (pick fights with every bot i see) and escalate shit as a means to speed up the run. Going loud will always draw players in and you’ll either kill them and the loot makes the headache worthwhile or you’ll be back in the lobby.

I’ll never understand the whole “i expect our third to just be our sidekick that we can’t coordinate with” approach to a Trios game

Anyways dawg. My experience with marathon is that I'm a new dad, and I've only been able to play a couple hours at most on weekends. I between level 20 and 30 of I had to guess. See I don't even know what fucking level I am. Life is great. I just do my little thing and I stay the fuck outta lobbies with people wasting their entire existence on a game.

I am the big fish in the little pond. You know I mostly play solos. I pretty much only play assassin, except for unlocking the cyac green skins on all my characters. When I play cryo I am the one leading my team around and showing them how to exfil/steal exfils. When I do fight in trios I am an aggressor when it is smart to do so. Stealth is key. It's as much a stealth game as a shooter. Some of my greatest joy comes from existing near a discord trio and then having no idea I do.

I literally only die very rarely and almost all deaths come from trios. In solos I have died a small handful of times, and it always comes from just being lazy and almost wanting to die.

I actually think that Marathon has decent directional audio compared to its peers. Tarkov's is still godawful, most times you can't tell if steps are above or below you. Arc's sound design is beautiful but directional audio is mostly a mess.

In Marathon I can somewhat consistently tell if steps are coming from above or below, the problem I sometimes have is if they're close behind cause it can sound like it's right in front.

I thought I'd enjoy it but it's very dependant on the kit you get. For example I've been on the Arachne kit since it released and I just do not find the Retaliator fun to play whatsoever, so I haven't had that much fun with it. Hoping today I get something better lol.

I think this mode would've been better for me personally at the start of the season rather than now. Cause now I don't really see a reason to play it. It takes away the tension and (mostly) possible gear reward from PVP.

I enjoy doing contracts so it's kinda just frustrating to fail repeatedly. It's all free kits so it doesn't suck as much but it feels a bit like everyone who got their contracts done early is farming those trying to catch up.

Priority access to get some free stuff every day is a great thing, but those are gated behind contracts. At least the nucal one for free meds is easy.

I also barely ever spawn elsewhere than on Complex or Bio on Dire Marsh, and that means PVP in the first 2 minutes. To be fair, though, I just do not like Dire as a map so I play it the least.

I'd rather lose 10 rounds on Cryo in a row than play two on Dire and win. 😂

assassin or thief agree with i cannot fly, also depends on how you want to play. recon can be good if you like to play aggressively.

If you want to just survive and not fight, get good with assassin. They basically can just choose to run away whenever they want (within reason). Thief is good for looting and can see through smoke with her little victory vision mode and has extra mobility with the tether. Recon I enjoy playing to hunt people down in solo because I like to kill stealthed assassins and the little fire bomb robot is cool.

Aside from that: the actual answer is all the shells can be good in solo if you play to their strengths and shells absolutely have very distinct identities and tricks. I think you could easily argue that all of them are viable to play in solo as well as trio. whoops that was supposed to be @brave sinew but whatever

I'm not really sure how different playstyles work or what that really means, so it has been hard to play to a specific shell's strengths. I'm not completely sure what those strengths are. I really don't understand the kits.

Assassin is pretty straight forward. But, I'm not really sure how to actually use his invisibility effectively, since moving makes you visible.

Vandal I'm kind of confused about because I'm not sure in what situation to use the prime ability, other than just running across the map to loot faster. And the arm cannon really throws me off. Not sure how it fits in with the other movement abilities.

Destroyer also throws me off. It has good movement stuff. But its prime ability seems like a pve only sort of thing. Ive tried using it in pvp, but people are dipping in and out of cover, so its hard to actually get sustained damage on them. Plus I'm assuming if they know you are doing it they will probably just hide anyway. And I really don't know what to do with the shield. I don't understand the theme of all these tools or what the game wants me to do to use the shell effectively.
