If you're wanting to split out audio, unfortunately, since the game doesn't like you doing game capture and prefers screen capture, then you'll have to use a third-party program to pick up communication audio, most likely.

What I learned from Tarkov is "never move". If you ever make any kind of noise, you'll instantly die. And that just sort of locked me into this ultra-rat playstyle. I've been trying to get away from that.

@brave sinew just focus on avoiding combat if you can, that's my number 1 tip - or if you have to fight you want to be the person that has the drop on them.

Also that tarkov instinct isnt' necessarily wrong in most cases - sound queues matter.

In Marathon, you should probably always be moving, and if you want to be sneaky, crouch.
Anytime you open a menu, it puts your gun away, and that makes a sound, too. So learning the maps are actually a great way to stay alive, knowing where you're going without having to look at the map can actually keep you safer

Not moving is a good way for someone to find you, especially with the detection skills and the like

How do you exfil from outpost as rook? Do you wait for final exfil? There is basically 0 chance of finding a red keycard so the rooftop exfils aren't going to work. And then you have maybe 1 or 2 normal exfils you can use, but everyone is going to be fighting over them.

cuz it's amazing? it's pretty epic once you learn how each enemy type moves and what attacks they're going to go for, like the grunts will generally try to rush you so breaking their line of sight can be massive to just allow you to switch to knife and wait for them in cover, if they're far away they're also going to try and circle at a distance but generally, you want to engage them in places where you can break line of sight with them easily...be weary of grenadiers tho, those will absolutely blast grenades towards your last known location

Solo requires a different pacing and mindset than trios I think. It certainly helps hone your situational awareness in the game and to pick out audio cues when you aren't hearing your teammates stomping around

Sounds like connection to the server issues. The tp'ing sounds more like you're rubber banding which happens when the server is having trouble updating your actual position. Unfortunately I do not know of a fix, but that's what it sounds like. I know I was running into it a few times myself a couple days ago during a few runs.

They might not have an API developed for the game yet, or are not interested in allowing it out. Whatever the reason is, it's not available to anyone. Every piece of resource out there was either data mined(unlikely due to A LOT of red herrings in the game files) or manually collected and collated into their own databases.

From what we know so far and what's been leaked each wipe is supposed to change slightly. Like the world and all of it. So I would assume not EVERY mission will be completely new, but I would expect some decent changes. I know we're getting a new shell and a new faction. So, I would definitely expect some changes in that regard. We know all missions will reset EXCEPT the intro quests....so if you've unlocked all of the factions they'll still be unlocked come wipe. Just reset back to lvl1.

Let me correct my statement- I don’t have protan but a protanomaly, which means that I do see red, but there are some red cues that I can not distinguish between and I just see it as a one block red.

Toggling the protan color filter switches color drastically and this also messes with the other colors I don’t have issues with.

The same ones aren’t always active (I think) but I do know that the best way to find them even when you don’t know the spawns is utilizing the security scans, those are monitors on the wall and the higher your security clearances the further the scan and the more stuff it pings

Genuine cryo tip for someone still learning the map, stay out of control until at least ten minutes remaining even then avoid being loud, try to get security level 4 by that time (doesn’t always happen but I typically do as long as I got into a fight or two) once you have security level four the armory in the control area (it’s in the corridors around control, you can get a guaranteed prestige valuable and tons of other weapons and mats, not the best loot in cryo but it’s the safest

you don’t have to but you can get really crazy with the EMP build crafting. Theres a few mods that get you health or shield back (can’t remember) when damaging players effected by EMP.

anyways. back to triage. have a few gold mods for a couple volt weapons and some of the more ideal chips/cores to maximize the EMP stuff that I’ve been wanting to try out but I’m kinda just saving them for cryo.

and by saving them for cryo I mean waiting for my regular crew to actually launch the game.

Make sure they know how to get out of cryo first, before you take in your good stuff. The map will kill you faster than the players will

I agree, I have 23 right now, gotta start using them. Tho I still think triage is in a disadvantage on exfills. If a runner spots you, say an assassin, he knows where you're at inside the smoke, now if you gotta throw a bunch every time it's just too expensive. So triage lacks the mobility to be last sec exfil hitter like thief can, and he desn't have a defensive mechanism to protect him beside carying smokes. Sounds stressfull!

I'm not really sure where else to ask this, I'm a lore follower of marathon and not a player, I keep my eye on the reddit and read discussions, I played a bunch of arc on release and burned out on the extraction genre for a while - I understand Marathon has had a mixed reception and I don't really want to get into the nitty gritty of that, I just wanted to ask the extraction shooter fans kicking around in here why there haven't been more PvE only extraction shooters, to your mind?

Not saying marathon should be that game, just something I've been thinking about.

PvE only doesn't resonate with people, I think it was Embark (arc raiders devs) who said arc raiders was intended to be a PvE game at first and it sucked

PvE extraction shooters do exist (see Zero Sievert and Witchfire) and largely the concept is already covered very well by roguelikes

I admit for myself I tend to find pvp to get stale over time in much the same way pve does.

I have long wondered what a truly robust pve only extraction shooter might look like complete with the depth of content and systems to allow for a long life span. Perhaps something MMOlike in terms of the density of content and social systems available.

I was mag dumping him, he whiffed the double barrel on me, reloaded, whiffed one, shot my retaliator shield, then switched to BR33 and still managed to kill me, entire time I was shooting him with retaliator

I bring up MMOs to say that it would likely require that style of mechanical complexity, and perhaps would not take the form of a traditional fps.

The bones on this game are EXCELLENT (visually inspired, but UI is lacking in accessibility and can be cluttered), but all you have to do is look at Titanfall 2 to see just how much a quality campaign can affect long-term multiplayer retention. Also, it would serve as the much-needed new player training/onboarding that the game currently lacks.

Bungie does best when they have time to cook and when they dont have time to cook they really fall apart. I'd rather them focus on new things and innovative ideas instead of churning out a new replacement for something they just released

It's funny seeing all the discussions about playercount catastrophizing on reddit - I used to play a lot of mmos, it's quite funny seeing the whole full loot pvp mmo phenomenon happen again in a new genre and people argue the same old points back and forth that the MMO community had to come to terms with over a decade ago as to why the full loot pvp MMOs were never able to last outside of a hard-core following.
