It's better than inaction and its been steady progress of improvement for me

Weasel is an error specifically that your client-side cannot communicate well enough to the server-side.
It can be caused by local settings, an issue between, or a major issue on the servers.

When there's a major issue with the servers that will cause it, Bungie announces the issue, and the majority of the playerbase, or a majority of players in a certain region, or a majority of the playerbase on a certain platform will be affected. That's not going on right now.
So, the issue is either on your end locally, or somewhere on the internet hops between yourself and the servers.

Locally, you can reset your modem, check firewalls, change your connection with a VPN... anything you can do to test those changes to see if you can connect.

If it's not local, then unfortunately, your only real option is to contact your ISP, but it's also possible it's outside of their range of effect.

Marathon requires a very good connection to the servers, and any minor hiccup in that connection could cause the Weasel error.

Some people don't talk because they're literally mute and incapable, some don't because people get weird and sexist over their voice. Some don't because they just got a phone call. It's just a game and if you're that upset over people not talking to you? Make friends and just play with them. Not everyone wants to talk to you nor has to. Not everyone wants to make call outs. You can still glean Information from people who don't make a call-out and use them as warning systems if you'd like to save your kit. It's just not that big a deal when you can create a party extrinsic from the games matchmaker.

Mics are important yes but let’s even pivot this conversation to rainbow six siege another hardcore game, when I played with randoms on that game only like 1-2 out of the 5 people would actually talk. I think people don’t open comm that much in games in general anymore

People are not forced to talk, there’s text chat, and a ping wheel so you can give detailed info without a mic

Entirely. Part of the problem is just.. console. At least it used to be. Consoles are getting discord now, so there's that, but people are more likely to sit in a group chat with their friends soloing games than not in my experience. Which can be hard to talk to two different groups at once. Xbox party chat forces you to not hear game chat if I remember correctly. It's been a while since I was a console gamer so I don't know how true this shit is today.

We did experiment with forced gameplay chat with MW2. That game has a certain reputation and I think forced game chat is part of the reason 🗿

Call outs themselves require contextual understanding. Most people can understand the call-out of "Harry Potter". Not everyone will get the context of dorrito or banana, which are pretty common call outs for a triangle or something shaped like a banana. No call-out is "perfect information" imo

Nor would shell call outs always be perfect. Or number call outs. If I call 2, it means I see 2. Not that there are only two. Some people really think that call outs will make them win every fight, but at the end of the day you still need a brain to react to information you're given and not act wrong because you get cocky or fed something without the full picture.
