If you want me to be honest... It's hard for me to COMPARE the games because they function so differently. Arc was built with pure PvE in mind.. I went into it with full intentions of PvP, it was good at first, the movement and weapons (before being nerfed into the ground) were nice. After playing Marathon, Arc felt even MORE like a PvE game, very slow, character felt heavy, the AI were extremely annoying, it just didn't feel "the same" in any way like I was used to. I played the server slam until I hit level 60 so I would like to say I put a fair bit of hours into it, it just felt more my style and speed I guess.

hunt still has my attention. the focus on it being pvp with npc's being a sound trap essentially works pretty well. Plus the events usually draw me back with skins. it's got a relatively unique weapon loadout with the classic guns and how they uniquely handle versus fully automatic m4's and the like.

I did some adjusting to Marathon for sure with an EQ and used a filter to dilute some of the color so it wasn't so strong on my eyes, and it was beautiful. It was nice to roam around and hear slight nature sounds, opposed to the giant metal machines flying and breakdancing in my ears.

you actually need to care about shooting someone since you're either cocking a hammer, working a bolt or otherwise having a brief moment of downtime between shots, so you can't just count on spraying down an enemy like you can in more modern shooters.

if you still have it still, definitely download it and give it a try. there isn't much like it and i'd argue that it's gunplay is a bit more skillful minded than tarkov is. the older weapons slow down pacing of the fights and having to reload a singleshot rifle actually makes you care about a round actually hitting, making it hurt more when it doesn't.

It's just so massively refreshing both artistically and in terms of an actual game that it just feels different and new when most things seem to be too scared to take the risk to make it unique.

welcome to the genre, there's a lot of variety.
Marathon is a middle ground extraction shooter where you've got some nice QOL features like auto selling useless stuff, keeping trade and quest items for factions, not having to manage every bone in your body as a seperate healing entity, but also is pretty rough because the fights between players are quick and brutal and you don't have a safe pocket to store stuff in like other shooters.

Tarkov is the way more hardcore and granular end of the spectrum, helldivers is also technically an extraction shooter if you go definition pure but doctrine radical.

for these types of games with loot at play and the risk of losing it, always remember: you can get more off other people, if you lose stuff, it's just done being your turn with it, and if you lose a full kit, you've just made more space in your vault to loot gremlin new stuff and get another dopamine hit.

I wouldn't say it ruined Titanfall 3. Titanfall 2 just came out at a very unfortunate time, right between a new Battlefield and CoD releases both of which were significantly larger IPs. While the game was a success, combined with the release window and EA's expectations, it was just inevitable. It's just sad.

It didn't "fail" per se, just didn't meet investor expectations. Apex on the other hand is a golden goose and it's why Respawn is just locked to keeping it alive.

arc has little depth for a reason. this game(marathon) has loads of builds for your weps/char and its just on the fly decisions that make the game fun here. finding a mod was rare in arc and it felt a bit like you were playing craft simulator. at least in tarkov(since it has depth af) the crafts meant alot more and there was way more risk reward. arc becomes really stagnant gameplay wise after a while

Yeah, completely agreed. What I've felt the most is how the gun balancing is more punishing than rewarding in Arc compared to Marathon. Don't count on knocking anyone going in with an unkitted common weapon, while rarer weapons hardly seem worth it to use which just leads to Vault hoarding unlike Marathon.
