Destiny 2 isn't the priority, nor should it be. Final Shape was very grim to develop. And they not only landed the plane successfully after multiple rounds of layoffs, but then much like the MCU, many of the fans drifted away.

Then there's a new story designed to bring new people back into the game and explain the story, yet the onboarding for new players still remains far too complicated. Combine it with the Edge of Fate overwhelmingly designing the games systems around repeatable content, grinding, and farming via the portal and player's dropped off en-mass. To the point Renegades ended up reversing or adjusting many of those changes.

By contrast, if Destiny 2 has around 150-200 developers on it, Marathon has around 600. The pressure is on.

Meanwhile Destiny 2 has no roadmap despite one being promised, weeks of lackluster TWIDs, and the expansion that was supposed to drop this week being pushed back to June while drastically increasing in scope.

arc raiders was so boring for me. there's very little narrative stuff at the start, and solo queue was basically a shopping mall simulator. the only thing I was working towards was upgrading benches so it didn't feel compelling at all.

I also didn't experience as much prox chat activity as people described they had, so it felt much more empty than my time with the marathon server slam

Any diehard Destiny player will remember that Bungie has had multiple periods of lows. Like post Curse of Osiris, post Lightfall, now Post Edge of Fate. My favorite thing from this game so far is the fact that I have meaningful decisions to make while at a disadvantage. In Arc Raiders it felt like there was no cover and no potential for outplay while behind, even if I was the Michael Jordan of Extraction Shooters the options felt extremely limited. Everything in Arc felt like a gear check, whereas in Marathon, if I got cooked it was due to a mistake somewhere on my end.

The biggest "Oh shit this is fire" moment for me was the realization that the TTK forces the combat to be focused on the moments leading up to the shooting, not the shooting itself. That was a huge thing because I dont usually play slow methodical shooters like that.

everything around the fight is so important. Setting up to have the shortest fight possible so you limit your exposure to third party/environment is crucial. I think this is why the ttk feels short in early game, is because you don't stumble into a fight — you get ganked with a premeditated set up
