I think that depends on how you engage with games (agreed that is not just dedication). There is a reason why they do the ARG and why people fight to make it to the leaderboard. Totally agreed that if you work, or simply don't get "lucky" to fall into it on the right channels, it sucks to keep up with what is going on when and where.
