@hasty token I just came back to check on my code as well and saw I was removed. I saw a post in the general chat that mentioned a statment that was made in the nda chat about "prior game restrictions" causing ineligibilty. I have a prior infraction from my old Destiny 2 account, which I think is why I didn't receive a code and got kicked. I would assume that is the same for others who got removed. Fair enough in my opinion, I just hope that doesn't mean I won't be allowed to play at launch 😭

Yeah, this is mostly just how Intel designed these CPUs.

Intel has effectively been on the same process node for several generations, so instead of major efficiency gains they’ve relied on higher power limits and very aggressive boost behavior to push performance. The result is extremely high power draw and temperatures, especially on chips like the 13900K and 14900K.

Even with strong cooling, these CPUs will run hot. For example, I have a fully custom loop (360 mm radiator + EK Velocity² block) on my old rig, and my 12900KS still hits 90 °C+ under heavy load. That’s because the CPU is designed to consume as much thermal and electrical headroom as it’s allowed to in order to boost clocks—this behavior is intentional.

As long as you aren’t seeing sustained performance loss from thermal throttling (frame drops, stutters, instability), and the system is stable, those temperatures are considered within spec. Intel explicitly designs these CPUs to operate very close to their thermal limits under load.

Running at ~90 °C does NOT damage the CPU. Modern CPUs have multiple layers of thermal protection (dynamic throttling, voltage scaling, and hard shutdown safeguards). In practice, long-term degradation is primarily a concern when running out of spec, especially with elevated voltage (heavy overclocking), not from normal high temperatures under stock or mild tuning.

You can lower temps with power limits, undervolting, or more conservative boost behavior, but this is simply going to cause you to lose performance in most cases, undervolting the 14900k is very common though and you can get it to run at (or very close to) stock with a lowered voltage (thus generating less heat and letting the chip run cooler)

TL;DR:
High temps on the 14900K are normal and by design. Intel pushes very aggressive boost and power limits, so the CPU will run near its thermal limit even with good cooling. ~90 °C under load is within spec and won’t damage the chip. You can lower temps with power limits or undervolting, but that usually costs performance—undervolting is common though and can keep near-stock performance while reducing heat.

I run all bios Intel pl stock, the only thing I changed was LLC auto bc for some God forsaken reason it changes it to 5, and changing it here helped with uncontrollable temps in every single game a lot. Where I was cranking 90c in battlefield 6 around launch, it now does ~77c, and that's with all p and e cores being used. Marathon is utilizing only a handful of cores to what seems like near 100%, and I will avg 92c in game. But if you insist that they are designed to run within that range and not degrade, that's cool. I haven't heard this from a single other person though. From my understanding the consensus is that running past 85c starts to degrade silicone?

Intel spec for the 14900K:
TJunction = 100 °C

Junction Temperature is the maximum temperature allowed at the processor die.

I get why the concern exists, but the idea that “anything over ~85 °C automatically degrades the CPU” is largely a misunderstanding driven by fear and outdated comparisons.

Intel’s own spec lists TJmax at 100 °C, and Intel does not ship CPUs that are expected to meaningfully degrade anywhere below that under stock conditions. These chips are explicitly designed to operate very close to TJmax under sustained load — that behavior is intentional.

What actually causes long-term degradation isn’t temperature by itself, it’s sustained high voltage (electromigration). Temperature can accelerate degradation if voltage is excessive, but temperature alone at stock or mildly tuned voltage does not meaningfully wear the silicon.

That’s why:

  • Intel CPUs dynamically manage voltage, frequency, and current

  • They throttle clocks before any unsafe condition

  • And they will hard-shutdown long before physical damage occurs

Seeing 90–95 °C during gaming or heavy workloads is within spec on a 14900K, especially in workloads that heavily load a small number of cores at very high boost clocks (like Marathon). Battlefield spreading the load across more cores and running cooler makes perfect sense. Most games should be running on your P-cores (performance cores) as that is what will boost the highest and give the best performance, usually if a game is running on your E-cores at all you will get lower FPS

People feel uneasy mainly because older CPUs didn’t run this hot, but those CPUs also:

  • Had far lower power density

  • Much less aggressive boost behavior

  • Significantly lower clocks

So it’s not an apples-to-apples comparison.

Your LLC change lowering temps also makes sense — it likely reduced voltage overshoot — but that doesn’t mean the chip was being “damaged” before. It just means it was running more aggressively.

Under stock settings or Intel PL defaults, running into the 90s:

  • Will not cause noticeable degradation

  • Will not shorten the usable lifespan in any practical way

  • Will not suddenly make the chip unstable years down the line

Intel designs these CPUs to survive many years of normal use, not a couple of years. If degradation occurred at 85–90 °C under stock behavior, Intel would be facing widespread RMA issues — and they aren’t.

The only real downside of high temps you should care about is performance: if the CPU hits thermal limits, it will clock itself down, which can mean lower FPS or lower throughput.

Also thought I should mention E-cores aren’t inherently bad for gaming, but their impact depends heavily on the game and scheduler behavior.

  • Some CPU-bound games (CS2 is a common example) can see higher FPS when E-cores are disabled, because the game prefers high-clock P-cores and avoids thread migration.

  • Other games and background-heavy setups benefit from keeping E-cores enabled to handle OS tasks, Discord, browsers, etc.

Intel provides options like Legacy Game Compatibility Mode (often tied to Scroll Lock) that temporarily disables E-cores for testing. It’s worth experimenting, but it’s not a universal rule that E-cores should always be off for gaming.

When playing a CPU bound game like CS2 my FPS avg would go from ~150-200 to ~300-400 when disabling my E-cores.

Running a 14900K at 90 °C+ under stock behavior is within spec, expected, and not damaging. Voltage abuse is the real killer, not temperature alone. High temps mainly affect performance, not longevity.

Fr. Arc bots are an ever-present threat and often can interfere/change PvP encounters.

yes in arc there’s a lot more variety but honestly sometimes the arc becomes too much to deal with. at times i was on blue gate struggling to get out of spawn because of the amount of arc that could kill me instantly

The TTK seems too fast to me. Like, I dunno why I have all these abilities & gear when I can just be lasered from across the map. It just doesn't seem to allow for long or tactical engagements.

Anyway, depending on how the game is priced I'm leaning towards getting it. I do like the aesthetic, the futuristic/sci-fi vibe and the Class/role-based gameplay.

I actually didn't think I'd like the Class system but it's pretty good. I like having a specific role to play on the team.

Nobody knows. I could see there being either 1 more test or an Open Beta. I feel like the latter would be good to give ppl a chance to try it. I was a naysayer about this game until Arc Raiders got me interested in extraction shooter and I have to say I enjoyed it. They're different experiences of course, but I could now see me getting this game.

4.8 ghz is a lil low under load esp if all ur doing is running a game, just means that ur CPU is probably either thermally throttling itself or electrically throttling itself (due to the voltage changes u did or maybe if ur PSU or motherboard VRMs cant supply enough current)

all that means is if u had more cooling or potentially a better motherboard/PSU u might be able to get it to run faster.

In terms of stability/longevity, yes thats more than fine. 90c under load is normal and so are those voltages, intel stock voltage is higher so u are more than fine.
