I had a pretty hard day like draining in every way possible. Loaded into Dire Marsh to gather materials for Mida upgrades and Cryo. I found every thing I needed plus a couple extra special stuff. So it started cheering me up a little bit. I get to extract and some man loser rat shoots me. I'm literally so upset I started crying. Why am I crying over a video game?! 😅

I wish there was an option to just load into lobbies with people who just want to loot and not fight. It gets exhausting!

Well what I offered is indicative of how the map is poorly thought out and designed in a way that players prioritized circumventing the map to rush an area, and rightly so. The tension in the map was due to unfamiliarity, as it is played more and more the map becomes trivial and there were constantly new ways to exploit and circumvent the core design principle of the map. Which signifies a poor testing period, i and others took advantage of that but yea. I had a hard time, game good. Me bad

Part of that was me not like FULLY chasing it, but the game is rough without the upgrades and getting them early on feels shitty. This is not controversial outside of Marathon fans tbh. Going back to Arc after the map update and a month or two of not playing, it’s pretty damn fun still. one thing I like about pinwheel and one thing not many people will point out is the constant tension with a run there. I know for a fact if I'm doing a run and pinwheel I'm getting in and I'm getting out. I'm not hanging around to find out which squad is going to show up there first or what rooks are going to be camping the entrance, genuinely, it is a skill issue because if you're not able to make a pinwheel raid without having the map knowledge to understand that you are more than likely going to get pinched or attacked from several different angles, it just means that you need to genuinely make a better effort at planning on what you're going to do and having contingencies

There are some rides that are scary like rollercoasters, and some that have requirement like height for your own safety, but there’s always a gradient that’s fun for everyone. I think extraction shooters should lean into this. It’s okay to lose some gear some time. And maybe even lose all your loadout in some situations. But that shouldn’t be normal. It should be like an amusement park, some go for thrill, others go to do what? SOCIALIZE. And sometimes? socializing doesn’t mean challenge or fear, it’s just hanging out low stakes…Right now extraction shooters feel like that CARNIE RIGGED GAMES that take all your money for most people. While I don't think it is bad for a game to appeal to a larger audience, that comes at a cost sometimes. Sometimes a piece of media comes out that is really good because they didn't design it in a way to be enjoyed by all audiences. I'm cool with games coming out that are "meh" to me if it means someone else out there got the game of their dreams.

That all said, I totally get the concern of putting in a ton of money and time into a game and it not appealing to the masses. It is an ongoing problem with AAA titles sadly. Normally to get that specified fix, we have to go to indy games to get it. It is nice to see a AAA studio do a niche game that I like, but that either meant they did it out of love for an idea instead of revenue, or they miscalculated the appeal. It is rough, but I will try to enjoy it as long as possible.
