I think SBMM would be hard to implement in a game like this, but it is possible to some degree. Technically, the season level based MM is a crude version of SBMM, it assumes that the more you play, the better you are getting.

A huge problem is that there are so many people who just don't give a damn to get better at games they play. They would rather sink tons of hours in without any effort or any thinking/reflection on how they are playing bad and how to get better. They keep doing the same stupid things, and they think it is fine because sometimes they get rewarded for it out of luck or they happen to roll someone who is worse than them.

The question is, how to you encourage people to learn vs have them keep playing bad?

there are similarites with character design and usage, however, the game play is not the same as apex. there is no collapsing zone. you can extract at any time. the goal is to either do missions /kill / or grab loot for later. Apex the mission is kill by any means neccesary

I typically do a lot of free kit runs and get bags from that. I usually look for valuables for codex entries. Getting a chunk of blue and a few purple valuables every run really gets your creds up over time, especially if you are free kit rattin peeps.

Free kit trios on outpost for a week and a half is how I did it. Avoid cryo or any sort of gear ante. Focus on money and expensive guns like railguns and sell them immediately. I had 650k credits and 350k vault at the end of the run.

Yeah I get that for sure. I come from other FPS games and have gotten decent aim from those. This is my first extraction shooter so the transition was jarring. I had to use my preexisting knowledge of determining good positioning, then I had to get used to the maps and then I have to apply that in different scenarios.

I think the hardest thing for me was learning when to give up on a position or stay posted when put into a sudden fight, and where to rotate to or just straight run away.

I don't know if I have some sort of brain disorder or what but I am constantly trying to follow the advice of "learn from your mistakes and correct your behavior in the next encounter" but it seems like I have never yet run out of mistakes. Each encounter is not benefitting from the learning, it is simply a new mistake showcase. It's almost like that show with the "holistic assassin" where my universal role is "loser"

I feel ya. Sometimes it is really hard to determine what you did wrong in a given situation, and what you are generally screwing up in a lot of your games. Good FPS instincts are easy to deduce once you think about it for a bit, but sometimes we miss simple things.

Lmk if you have questions, or are still lost on where to begin even. I'd be dow nto kick it and review clips or watch you play and point things out that need to change.

2. The game is not for everyone. Extraction shooters tend to not have casual fanbases outside of Arc Raiders (players often try to avoid conflict with other players if possible)

Advice for early Marathon players:

It’ll take at least 3-4 hours for the game to really begin to click for you. Then much longer to learn maps, guns, abilities, and especially the systems.

• Increase your vault size through CyberAcme’s upgrade tree as fast as possible, then steadily and aggressively unlock the other factions through the “Introducing Xyz” quests. You can use the “track” button to more easily hunt down what specific items you need. Then the game opens up.

• What’s most important is to take your time with things and be patient with yourself and the game as you die and learn. When playing, listen to your environment, be cautious, and in a firefight tap the trigger.

• Figure out what your goals are and enjoy yourself as you discover what shell playstyles you enjoy most.

• The armory offers unlimited free, daily rotating kits. Take advantage of them but don’t become dependent on them either.

• NuCaloric focuses on survival and gives daily green health and shield patches with a specific upgrade tree. Then gives free blue patches of both types later on. There’s even a track that gives you free shields and lets you purchase better ones.

As I said before, our disagreement stems from you separating games from the rest of the company's activities, while I consider games as just another activity of the company. If a company created a DLC printing abominatioin with constant content removals and ended up just outright killing it, I will expect them to do the same thing with Marathon, because it is the same company. And considering because of what happened with Destiny, the company is bad, I can totally see people give flak to Marathon for being made by Bungie. Some would call it a boycott.
