I feel like many ppl gets too committed rather than knowing when to reposition back, let the enemies use up their resources and go from there. Personally, I just don’t want you guys to get burnt—at this point you just have to acknowledge that the game will not receive the care and attention it deserves. Moreover, it may be the nail in the coffin for a beloved studio that could’ve and should’ve had a greater and longer lasting legacy. Layoffs are already happening and Sony is fucking pissed. They thought Destiny 2 would print money forever, and instead got 2 IPs that are simply not lucrative enough for a $3.6B investment.

Bungie’s choices here don’t look good, they either:

a. Double down and continue to sustain Destiny 2 and/or Marathon and hope they start to generate more revenue.

b. Attempt to pivot towards a different live service title with the hope that it has a broader appeal and better ability to generate reoccurring revenue.

If you want to get into the details of why Marathon was a bad idea to begin with, save it. It’s more simple than you’d like it to be. They had a huge, 1,200 person team working for 5-6 years in an extremely expensive city on title that data suggested was niche.

Sales and concurrent players are just a part of the story here. But suffice to say the math isn’t mathing. What was the plan to monetize an extraction shooter with a $300M+ break even? Skins? Get real. Consumer fatigue for $20 cosmetics has been obvious for the past 5 years. Battle Passes are in the same boat. What else can they monetize that won’t result in an outright riot? If stash space, heroes, and maps are all off the table, there aren’t many options left. At the end of the day, the decision to make an expensive, PC-heavy live service extraction shooter in an already competitive market was stupid.

I’m not asking the game to explain why I died. I already know why I died in most cases. bad positioning, bad timing, missed shots, whatever. that part is not the issue

what I’m asking for is simple feedback data: how much damage did I actually deal before I died

those are two completely different things. “why did I die” is about decision making. “how much damage did I do” is just raw information

right now the game only shows one side of the interaction. I can see exactly how much damage I took, but I have zero visibility into what I output. that makes it harder to evaluate things like whether I almost won the fight, whether my weapon choice was effective, or whether I need to adjust how I’m taking engagements

and to the point about people saying “I don’t need it, every death is obvious” that’s fine for you, but that doesn’t really address the feature itself. having more information available doesn’t force you to use it, it just helps the people who want it

also the argument about people complaining “I did so much damage and they didn’t die” doesn’t really make sense, because right now nobody can actually verify that. adding damage numbers would do the opposite, it would ground those claims in reality instead of guesswork

at the end of the day, this isn’t about ego or avoiding mistakes. it’s just about having consistent, complete combat feedback so players can better understand engagements if they want to

It absolutely is worth it. Nearly everyone I've seen post cryo hauls has like INSANE amounts of goodies. It's literally so much a team can't pack it all in their bags.

You're not consistently getting prestige items from pinwheel. Cryo on the other hand pretty much always gives you prestige salvage from vaults. If a teammate picks it up it's shared to your entire team after exfil (game says that literally nowhere btw it's really dumb)

The game already shows how much damage I took, so hiding the damage I dealt just makes the recap incomplete. If you don’t care about the number, just ignore it, but that doesn’t make it useless.
