adding PVE to Tarkov was very detrimental to the playerbase. Cheating is the main issue, which lead to PVE being added, but extraction shooters dont work well without pvp.

People need to realize that extraction shooters are just rougelikes with pvp in them, its not about keeping your loot forever like in MMO or something, its about the thrill of the fight and finding better and better stuff, to eventually die and simply run it back. Yeah, I like the game in its current hardcore state but I also want it to succeed long term and continue to produce content, and Idk if the game as is has drawn in enough players and revenue to support the current team size and the content rollout they have planned. There is another game in the same genre that also has content appealing to people who want a less hardcore experience and its working very well for them, I think this game can be fun and difficult and appealing in a pve mode for people who dont enjoy the pvp aspect. This company made destiny 2, they have a previous customer base of people who enjoyed their less hardcore pve coop experience. I dont think adding a pve mode with a seprate vault and progression would diminish the main game mode or pull away any significant number of players who already enjoy the hardcore pvp, but I think it would bring in more casual players and more revenue making it easier to support and add content to that hardcore experience.

I think the truth to helping the game isn't about making it easier but giving more ways to help new players get better at the game. We don't wanna go down the fighting game route where by adding easy input combos they kill the expirience for hardcore expirienced players, which is what the core fanbase usually ends up being overtime for most games.

I think extraction shooters are comparable to fighting games in that casual players can be interested in the genre but get turned away by the idea of getting destroyed in pvp. Much like fighting games I think a single player pve mode would add a lot of appeal to a casual audience as a lower difficulty space where they can learn the game and get some story and guaranteed value even if they bounce off the pvp challenge

If this game is a walk in the park for you then you are in the top % of all people playing. In addition, yes the game is straightforward, but straightforward does not mean easy. Don't conflate the two. There is nothing easy about this game unless you have two sweaty ass friends that invest at least as much if not more time than you do. You're almost certainly overestimating yourself.

Really depends though. If PvE only is to pull more players into the game, it needs to have development time and effort poured into it as much as the PvP side does, which knowing the state Bungie's development team is in right now, I doubt they could really pull it off well until far further down the line in the game's lifespan.

Marathon and Destiny have been separate teams for a while. Unless they merged, or maybe the network side of things is just one team, idk. But Marathon seems stable for the future of development, success and revenue aside. My concern is just how much of the Destiny team remains and what they can scale to. Hard to say from the outside looking in.

Would be interesting to see them meet in the middle of the two sides with a early level stricter match making allowing for a slow ramp up into normal skill levels. Forces pvp but between people who should be similar skill levels, and even early on add player bots to teach people to deal with shell mechanics. Could be interesting to think about.

I do some of both, just depends what you are looking for. Solo queue gameplay seems a bit different. I feel like there's more emphasis on sneaky gameplay and the assassin shell is used a lot there. Trios feels more action packed and it helps to coordinate with your team too of course.

My suggestion is not to have a pve mode with shared loot but a seperate vault and codex and faction progression if that is your concern. Basically a different profile with no seasonal reset so people who enjoy pvp are incentivized to stick with it and cant be like oh lets load into cryo archive pve to not risk the loot.

If ranked has a buy in the ranked players will still have to farm value in unranked. And really no amount of slightly less skilled players in unranked is gonna appeal to players who wouldnt buy the game without a dedicated pve mode because they dont want pvp at all

I don’t really have anything interesting to say in regard to the PvE/PvP argument, but I lean more towards liking the game as it exists now. I think the PvE aspect in an extraction shooter is there to flavor the game and add to the world itself, but the main focus from the word go for extraction shooters (looking at Tarkov) was the PvP, and no it’s not wrong to want to change that narrative, but giving in to both camps can lessen the experience imo.

it would for sure split the playerbase by a significant enough margin to negatively affect the main game without a sizable increase in overall players. the pve is also not even close to fleshed out enough for a standalone mode it would require months of heavily diverted resources to get to a functional state meaning the pvp side would suffer in the meantime. if it’s a large enough division of resources then there will be a lack of new content making the game stale and killing retention

Based on what? Arc is a game in the same genre, with seemingly a much larger playerbase despite being in my opinion worse in almost every aspect.
