A solution would be something like the open gaming collective, a kernel that could be signed and trusted to be distributed for gaming oriented distros, but that is still a long way to go

OpenGL is iffy but my only experience is in Necesse and thats a problem specific to that game. I can play Arma 3 great, I played Fallout New Vegas without issues beyond the usual crashes the game is known for. Stalker Anomaly ran great with no issues, Fallout 4 no issues, War Thunder no issues, World of Tanks no issues, and so on
