The lore is fantastic. But Bungie hasn't been able to tell a good story to save their life since Halo 3: ODST. The new Bungie hasn't told a good story.

I can't disagree more. System Shock isn't mechanically deep, about as deep as Perfect Dark but with a couple more extra mechanics (namely the hacking minigame). Halo "ruined" FPS games as much as "Star Wars" ruined the blockbuster. It's a non-argument based on video game historical illiteracy.

So, here's some reality. Halo was an attempt to bring Arena Shooters to the modern consoles at the time. Many attempts had been made before, but controls were always the main problem (mostly due to the inaccuracy of joysticks at the time). There were successful attempts, Doom 64 being a notable example in the 5th Generation of Consoles, but none could bring the gameplay of titles like Quake and Half Life to consoles successfully without a mountain of caveats. Halo was the first to nail controls, game loop, level design, and weapon-based map control of an Arena Shooter successfully to consoles, even surpassing some of the games that inspired it. Responsive and tight controls designed by Bungie made this possible, and led to the direct success of Bungie and Xbox.

I don't think so. Sunsetting had two distinct functions. The first was that it allowed them to upgrade the Tiger Engine, to deliver content faster and add fun things like weather effects. On the other hand, it also started out players with a back-to-basics loot grind. Which also sucked, but that's not the point. I believe that sunsetting doesn't really match up with the timeline for Bungie going crazy with easily-investable incubation projects

Dead serious. Bungie's games don't like irregular aspect ratios

I played through the ENTIRE October play test by using Lossless Scaling to make the game letterboxed on a CRT
