Sometimes it pays to be kind

When I raid, I don’t bring in any weapons that could commit harm on a fellow raider. I exclusively bring in Hullcracker, Aphelion, Jupiter and such, weapons fixed toward killing arc. If I don’t have any of those, I bring in wolfpacks, deadlines, and seekers. Oh and don’t forget a shit ton of heals for my fellow raiders.

I don’t PvP cause it is not how I was raised. I was raised to treat others how you would want to be treated, and running around killing others for pixels feels wrong. If a raider shoots at me, I throw down my arms and surrender.

The other day I was on Buried City and I received some gun shots in the back. I quickly retreated into a building and I hear the perpetrator get attacked by arc outside. And not long after, I hear a flair pop.

Most would see this as an opportunity to get some loot and see what the raider has. Not me. I picked him up and asked him why he shot at me.

Healing him with bandages, he tells me he comes from a broken, impoverished home, and the only way he feels good in life is by hurting others. He has a single mother struggling to put food on the table, Dad hasn’t been in the picture for years, and there’s shootings in his neighborhood daily. He said all this choked up, with what sounded like tears being held back. He just wants to feel something.

I told him about my story and the joy I receive from helping others. I dropped him a defib and told him to give it a try sometime. He thanked me, picked ip the defib and said that I gave him a new lease on life. That he felt ready to love again.

I came to the conclusion that most people who PvP are hurt, people. And hurt people, hurt people.

I get my joy from uplifting others, and making people’s days a little bit better. And to me, that’s worth far more than pixels on a screen.
