I have a feeling a lot of pvp games will look into arc raiders matchmaking

extraction shooters thrive on the unexpected, on forcing you outside of your comfort zone

ARC raiders is made a lot more like other shooters with ABMM which does make it more accessible, but that also makes it less engaging long-term and means the stories in retrospect that the genre creates constantly begin to just...disappear, into algorithmic dopamine hits

It's cool for ARC raiders to do it, I think it's good for that game

And it can be fun for the right kind of player

but for people like me, who like this genre for what it is and don't need it to be something else

it makes the game weaker

less satisfying

If I wanted to be given what I want, I would've gone and played battlefield or some shit, hell, I do when I want that. I want to be given what the game has for me, not what an algorithm thinks i want. And I absolutely do not want to be able to game the system to get the lobbies that I'd prefer, that's just awful.

It removes a lot of the thoughtfulness that makes these games what they are

SBMM I'm warming up on it does kinda work alright in Hunt but at the same time I still think it should always just be connection-based in these games. There's no reason to try and sort players into categories in a game like this, and it always risks making the game weaker.

Oh no no no, the story is the one thing that hasn't been TOUCHED all development, since it's based on such old and sacred lore, the direction has been specific. The only change is that there's such a thing as "presets" or basic models for shells, to explain why there's heroes even though you're not playing as a specific runner anymore. Otherwise it's all intact

When you think about it, its not. Keeps the content fresh, makes so players are not bored in the long term and allows devs to insert new content without messing with the progression of already endgame players

Wipes are so damn fun, especially once youre like 2-3 wipes in. You know how things work, you know where to go for a quest and some of these areas turn into high traffic PVP areas again, and its an absolute bloodbath

Quest Progress really confuses me though. Like i get the idea of having those specific spots on the maps be hot zones rather than dead objectives everyone moves past, But I can't imagine 6 years from now doing Comm Relays on Perimeter is gonna be my favorite thing to do
