also one small feature i kinda noticed, armour decreases your heat meter, so chest or leg implants are key to balance this out abit, essentially with the implants you get you must prioritise a balance or builds that work with other teamates etc

I love the moments of cooperation with other players against the robots in ARC raiders, and a version of that being able to happen in Marathon would be pretty sick.

It’s a very unique experience in gaming right now.

They seem to be moving away from the shells being characters. As of how they’re describing them now, they seem more like classes. Like the pilots in Titanfall—visually distinct but not heroes in the Overwatch sense.

Though having characters in cinematics isn’t out of the question. Different characters could inhabit completely different bodies and have different voices, while still being the same person in their head. Might add some cool mystery.

i think you misinterpret how the shells function , the shells are just shells, the voices are the characters, i just want to see the marathon world in a cinematic view. i don't want characters i want shell on shell action with weird psychological rambling in the back and beautiful shots of the scenery. all shells shown in each cinematic would be their own character, not the shell but the voice inside the shell, showing a different behavior and characteristic of who these people truly are outside of their shell forms, just like how the first cinematic showed us, the cinematics would give the viewer to think and interpret the world through discussion and in depth viewing,both hearing what the characters say and think and seeing what the world of tau ceti truly is about

The hero aspects came about when Ziegler joined, so I think they struggled to position the shells as customizable when he retooled them into “heroes”. Which became characters at first but now they’ve become more solid about pushing that the player themselves is the runner (which is slightly different from the player AND their character being the guardian in Destiny) who just inhabits shells. what I meant by “different shells having different voices” was that shells of the same type speak with the same voice, but the individual controlling them still shines through and makes them sound unique.

The shells speak with the inflections, quirks, and mannerisms of the brain remote controlling them, but the vocal cords they are using to speak with are common to that shell type.

Two different Recon’s share a conversation, and while their voices are the same, they sound entirely different. Which could be a very interesting challenge for the actors to potray, and an interesting challenge to the audience to see if they can find their favourite character even if they are in a completely different body.

What I’m curious about is how this angle is going to work in gameplay.
Perhaps characters will have generic call outs like the pilots in Titanfall, or generic army dudes in battlefield games, just all using the same VA per-shell.

A big way some hero shooter games balance having playable characters with powerful abilities is giving them unique and distinct voice lines so you can tell what they’re doing/gonna do, à la Overwatch ultimates.

Then again, I don’t think you can hear characters using voice lines to signal powerful movies in Apex, which is a bit closer gameplay-wise to marathon.

Maybe the sounds and sights of the abilities being used themselves will make do. Besides, the powers the shells use aren’t anywhere near as powerful as the stuff in Overwatch.
