the one thing i will say is that both games are for different audiences so if you try to play Marathon like Arc then you might get disappointed. Marathon is an extraction shooter like Tarkov/Arena Breakout Infinite where friendly people are rare and you will encounter alot of PvP fights

Be real if they had modular customisation and not just full skins, they would have shown it by now if just to get everyone off their backs. What we know from the ViDoc:

• Full skins for runners and weapons
• also weapon stickers and charms

• some cosmetics are earnable in game, attached to content in the Codex
• Purchasable battle passes, but they don't expire (like Helldivers)

Only 2 outcomes I've ever seen from other players. Either they shoot you the moment you turn your back, or you end bffs till the end basically. The only times where suddenly who you thought was your friend just started shooting you is when.. I did it. I chose the darkside halfway through and spent the next 30 minutes laughing/crying over whatever reaction the other player had. I played plenty of the prox chat mode and not once was I randomly betrayed lol

Scav players fall on a bell curve in tarkov I think rook will be the same, people not good enough to understand the system, the thick mid band of players which benefit from risk free loot to help their main progress, then the far right portion which is players who do not need to scav and can progress stably all the way through the quests without needing dedicated loot runs

Like imagine if I went in as rook, got a nice set of guns and upgrades, went in as a normal runner, and DIED.. well that rook run was for nothing, everything lost in one go. But if I spend a few weeks, or months depending on the max vault capacity, running and picking up whatever I can find, then I feel confident as a runner because then I have a massive stock of stuff to fall back on.

I dont think youre understanding the entire scope of what wipes allow in terms of gameplay. Forced wipes allow for a much higher cap on player/gear power. It makes gear and faction upgrades actually make tangible differences. If the game was forced to be balanced around optional wipes, it would have to either split the playerbase or reduce player agency so far to the floor that tangible upgrades barely mattered. (otherwise people would complain that new players get washed by perma powerful non wipers, etc)

Without the loss the gains dont feel as good. Extraction shooters explore some of the highest highs. Wipes allow for player progression that feels very meaningful on a consistent basis while keeping things fresh. Your feelings toward wipes and gear fear are valid, everyone has those thoughts when approaching extraction shooters for the first time genuinely. People generally get over it though as playing with toys is more fun than sitting on them
