Different timeline, yes, we've been trying to place it. It's possible it's a unique timeline, but unlikely given the reason why timelines shifted at all (spoilers.) The only one that really makes sense is the final timeline from Infinity. In the previous successful timeline, the UESC would already be in contact with the united S'pht clans and wouldn't be surprised the marathon was dead, in the final timeline Durandal (now Thoth-Durandal) never contacted them.

Just not true. The events of the original games definitely happened, though the timeline is yet confirmed, given the dates and info we've been given.

Anywho, neither explains much about Fusion weapons being renamed to Volt, besides Tim's response, which is the most likely. Volt is a snappier term, and clearly they were blindly following the marketing team for a while back there so it'd track.

Anywho, makes me sad. Fusion Pistol sounds more unique than Volt Pistol. I'm sure there's tons of both in sci-fi, but certainly less of fusion.

It is absolutely 0% like Prey (2017), as to be any % like Prey (2017), Prey (2017) would have to have at least 1% to do with the other Prey. It's in fact exactly like Doom (2016) since it continues the storyline by filling in a gap no one really needed to fill in between two points no one initially expected to be connected

Well, if you're creating new lore set in the same universe you're not really telling the same story are you. As far as I know the only thing that is truly faithful is the location (Tau Ceti, Marathon ship) and some of the factions. The characters are new, the weapons are mostly new, the maps/world is largely new. Is has a new art style. Totally different genre. It's more like a reboot set in the same universe kinda deal.

The characters are the same (Durandal, main character of the trilogy, is in and played by Ben Starr, we've already heard him in two trailers, the S'pht and Pfhor are clearly involved, the Battleroids are an important part of the storyline), the weapons aren't actually all that new, as at least the Fusion Pistol, The .44 Magnum Mega Class, and the Shotgun(s) are directly ported forward (albeit the Fusion pistol is a Volt weapon now, as previously mentioned, but it functions the same), correct on the maps, correct on the genre, correct on the art style. It's too tied in to consider it disconnected, too disconnected to consider it a sequel. That's where the term "spin-off" comes in. I call this a spinoff.
