Does arc raiders have a story

It does have a bit of a story through cutscenes and in game item lore, some are funny too.

But its a fairly generic (so far): ||world apocalypse major climate destruction, some humans who were rich went up into space to escape, the rest of the humans survived on earth somehow, machines come down from space (possibly alien or from the said humans who escaped in ships - we dont know yet).

And there have been 2 waves of the machine attacks, and in the current lore or Arc Raiders we are in the secondary wave of evolved/upgraded machines.||

Spoiler tagged the story, not that there is much so far, for those who want to experience it.

But im more invested in Marathon if it comes to get a release. That it will be more lore rich, and heck maybe even have a campaign or PVE mode with more engaging story in it.

Like id love to see the idea of the gradual degredation or potential degredation of the runners conciousness, like how the AI's got rampancy in the original Marathon games, becuase now that the human conciousness is digitized, you'd assume they too can fragment over time etc.

there is also Forever Winter which was very hard initially as well (and another extraction shooter) but I think it has gotten a bit more easier over time as they have subsequently added patches and listen to the community.

In the short, when the female runner inserts the pink music chip, Void (the one hiding with the sniper) is also hearing her hearing the music which is why he doesn't shoot. Later on, the baseline AI thinks he is the girl which is why it gives him the same childhood photo.

I never play Forever Winter so i cant really tell. I played alot of arc recently and played tarkov around 2022 for awhile. Arc is just stale after you progessed everything cuz you can just easily craft good stuff without a worry. For tarkov its the complete opposite. You actually have gear fear. So something where gear fear exists for "endgame" gear but dont have to stress about mid-low gear. In tarkov if you are broke you are broke. In arc if you are broke you got still good enough gear to fight highend gear.

Ohhh yeah its why they have a dedicated insurance system etc in Tarkov compared to Arc which is more simplified. But they are two different games too.

Tarkov is targetted towards those who like calculated tactical militray shooters like Ready or Not and Swat 4 style, but still with touches of run and gun.

While Arc feels more akin to a fortnight style extraction shooter.

They each have their fan bases I guess?

Arc is "distilled" extraction shooter. It's a relatively simple game to pick up if you are not used to the genre.

Tarkov is much more for the mil-sim/"gun porn" enthusiast. It began as a (quite good at the time) browser FPS called Contract Wars

Then I guess somwhere along the way they brought the gameplay and gun customization to their spin on the Battle Royale.

Maybe you could try Delta Force's extraction mode or Arena Breakout. They both feel a bit more casual than Tarkov.

Plus they are F2P so no harm in trying
