Like to me the entire structure was wrong, PvE should have mattered more. To me it should have been more like the Division dark zone where there is PvP but still lots of PvE events like fortresses with loot rooms and a boss at the end, roaming bosses, PvE factions fighting each other. Especially on the faction side, I think we should see multiple warring factions on the same map either as small chance event or just as a natural part of the map. Balancing loot around this could be dead enemies not taking substancial damage to a player only drops ammo if killed by another AI.

excactly I want crazy alien guns, like imagine scouting a location and in the middle of lots of enemies you see 1 grunt with a fancy thermal scope on his gun or a cryo grenade launcher underbarrel attachment, I want to then be able to clear the area to strip that grunt's gun and put the attachment on my own gun

that is like 90% of the fun with scavs in Tarkov is seeing their unique loot, their AI is very stale sure they can be lethal because it is a 1 shot 1 kill game at times, but the fun is in every scav feels like opening a loot chest that can have anything in it

they can have pretty much any gun in the game id say 80% of the time they spawn with a busted up stock gun and nothing in their backpack, but the other 20% of times they might spawn with a powerful DMR, a bolt action with a good scope, good bodyarmor, a valuable item in their bag.

also another thing I wish they took from tarkov is gear that is specific to a certain boss, like an alien gun that only this guy has meaning you will have to kill the boss to get this gun or kill another player who has killed the boss, basically an exotic I guess with the gun being unique and completely different from other guns in the game.

id say fuck the exotic mod mechanic and give us destiny style exotic guns, that is like the 1 thing bungie does well consistently. Would spice up the loot pool 10 times.

You know, it's so funny looking at people on X saying DOA for Marathon. People are so desperate to see good things fail for the sake of "views" "clicks" etc.
The condemning of Marathon at it's alpha was so blown out of proportion, the game's foundation is solid, coming from someone who's put thousands of hours into both Tarkov and Destiny, the game has a healthy enough injection of both game styles to work and set itself apart. Sure it needs tweaks and a bit more development, hence the delay, but DOA? Hell no.

I wish people would stop being so Doom baiting. Everything I've heard so far about the game since its delay just makes me think things are going in the right direction.

Nah if there's a social space it would be virtual. In-match we're temporarily inhabiting a rent-a-merc printed for limited use, outside a match we're basically just logged in remote. IMO a social space would more resemble the social space in more recent Guilty Gear games.

But I'm anti social space in Marathon the way I'm anti clan housing in D2: everyone loves a fun clubhouse but I don't think it adds anything to the game. But I do like the down time on the ship in HD2 between drops watching other players dissociate into menus and run in circles...

But HD2 has better fashion game than Marathon and you can recognize when players are in certain ship menus based on where they've parked. Human brains do enjoy seeing unthreatening human behavior.

I remember seeing doc clips of early Destiny alphas and how much they loved seeing players just recognize each other without emotes and just run up to each other and start crouching and swinging their aim at each other. I didn't imagine they've forgotten how appealing that is. So that lack must be up to strictly limiting dev scope to the principle game mode after the reorg with Ziegler?

Like, the game hadn't found a good shape and focus so that was Ziegler's objective, stripping down to a deliverable minimal but complete game and leave soft appeal features players aren't paying extra for out for future consideration. Also why prox chat or other means of non violent non team communication were entirely left out?

They released D3, it's called EOF and it's sitting on top on D2 but effectively no one is playing D2 content that wasn't made f2p playlist options in D3 because it's not rewarding tier chase loot

They called the gamers out and gamers want to burn themselves out in the loot trough when Destiny's best content is mostly right there for them to play any time

DCV was the right choice. It was that or Marathon and Destiny wouldn't be in a better place today with an extra 75gb of unplayed content.

Unless something really crazy happens, the game will make it to launch next year.

As for whether this game will become a success, who knows.

I had enough fun playing the Alpha in May that I now have a Marathon itch and want to play more. But it definitely had its rough edges and I'm not sure how long the gameplay loop would keep me going long term.

Now the game from that alpha may get close to a year's worth of additional development(Sony launch deadline seems to be March or sooner, and the Alpha build was months old.)

And Bungie is working directly with actual players in closed playtests to shape the game.

Also, they do have the home field advantage going. Bungie for some bizarre reason tends to produce some of their best content and games while they are under pressure and in a rough spot. This is going back to original Marathon days, through Halo, and continuing throughout Destiny.

So things are 100% looking better than when September was going to be the launch. This will not be Concord. Where it goes post launch, we will find out.

I played bf6 and observed that french indie slop game expedition 33, DS2 sucked , and peak just doesn't deserve it. The only other game is arc raiders n tarkov. Arc is great but it's more of a limited experience than a full game, i doubt tarkov full release will be significantly different, and marathon is poised for a huge upset, everyone wants to see it succeed! That's part of why I'm still suspicious early work was loaded with stuff clipped out of the inspiration folder and original work was filtered in alongside it to make sure it fit and the antireal work just wasn't labeled for removal.
