the pros for me are the story and armor change they made it so much fun with the armor changes

builds are more fun now because of it

the cons are how grindy the game is now, for example to get tier 3 and above you need to have a power level of 350, and not only that but it takes up 90 hours to get the top loot

I think they were going for "early access" release and then fill in features over time but they underestimated how much interest the game has and how much people would respond to the ARG and the trailer. Between that and the promotion of the narrative lead to creative lead (besides their stated goals) they seem more interested in surfacing the story more for a broader audience rather than leaving it cryptic and environmental.

Games are expensive to make, gotta get that bag. There're plenty of indie games where you can get all kinds of SF story thrills, and books like the ones which influenced Marathon in the first place. Bungie isn't From soft and whether it's Sony MS or Activision they're still The Halo Studio and don't have the history of selling millions with cryptic ambiguous stories like Miyazaki does.

For the biz dorks the best thing isn't the right thing here. They want years of recurring income, not fine art.

They aren't resurrecting Marathon because it's fertile ground for telling new stories. It's a familiar IP asset and they need to squeeze it for revenue
