It is fundamentally a good game, it just always has the worse people guiding the ship at the worse times

the other problem is having directors with competing visions for the game

like there is a very different style between jason jones, luke smith, joe blackburn and tyson green

I still think the best example for competing visions is comparing Luke to Joe. The original concept luke layed out for the dcv was that stuff would rotate in and out (iirc it would be one old location from the dcv and one new location added in each year) but when joe took the lead he shifted focus to just new stuff

i will say this as sum1 about halfway through the campaign

the campaign narrative is fantastic so far
however, campaign missions are too repetitive
gameplay is different due to the systematic changes but very much destiny feel
the new destination is actually pretty good in terms of design, progression, and overall the vibe
the destination mechanics are a miss tbh. it just gets tedious

for any1 that is wondering to buy the expansion, i would suggest to either wait for a sale or wait for the sept 9th major update. campaign being the only thing positive about the expansion is not enough for $40

I would say its half and half.

The people who were previously excited about the game still are but since there is no news they are off elsewhere for now.

The other half are people who may or may not have had some excitement or interest, but were disappointed by the reveal/gameplay. They don't have any information to change or become excited about.

As someone who got to play the alpha, I am excited. I didnt start out that way, but at a certain point the gameplay clicked and I just kept wanting to keep playing.

And while the delay is crushing, it does give them more time to polish the game for launch.

The fact Bungie keeps doing these playtests, really shows how much they want to get it right before they show more.

Legacy was an absolute masterpiece, and this one feels like it's struggling. Even still, without the digital world of TRON whats the point?
The characters being in the real world is cool but I miss that rocky outlandish terrain with neon blue lights and glossy glass. Maybe It's just my nostalgia talking but from what they've shown in the trailers... it's just not the same.

I stopped playing Destiny 2 a long while ago... Raids were very interesting and fun to play with varying types of playing and experience. I can honestly say I had some of the most fun times with super noobs and trying to teach raids mechanics than "properly playing the game"

I recently came back to Destiny and enjoying playing legacy mode on campaigns I've never played before. Although taking several hours for a single boss can be interesting to come up with solo tactics 🤪

Anyways I wish I had known about Marathon Alpha in time. Would have loved to have played!

I had a great time with the playtest, sure there's a ton of raw spots. Game absolutely needs prox voip. But, foundationally, there's definitely something there. Look at how No man's sky fell flat initially but just kept developing. It's a longshot comeback but not impossible. The extraction shooter genre NEEDS more effective competition

Personally, all the "new" AAA games seem quite similar to me. I guess it has to do with the fact that they are all made with UE5, or at least the vast majority, and if not, they use different graphic engines but apply the same technologies. Pretty much, you ride the tension between having to work harder with basic gear and then getting to use all the cool toys you collect to take bigger risks. It's kind of PVP roguelike plus npc combatants to keep you on your toes and give you a little extra gear between player fights.

Marathon adds randomized puzzles and events to the formula to lead players together and meta community puzzles based on discoverables in-game a bit like the occasional community puzzles in Destiny 2
