Just as an aside, it would've been beneficial to make a game called "Marathon Remastered" using this engine, and then had the "Extraction" element as the multiplayer flagship. That would've attracted nostalgia gamers and zoomers. Game Pass negatively affects developers by shifting metrics from economic data like sales, to engagement data. The problem with this is the same problem that movies and tv streaming are having.

Instead of interest being something that drives ticket purchases, which is a sense of ownership. You are basically looking at what people are clicking on, playing for a long time, etc.

Except the problem there is that the studio isn't directly awarded for its success. That pool of money stays the same, because its just a monthly fee. It's not the same as a game being sold for a static price at launch, and then being given updates, or selling cosmetics. It is the reason why we have so many season passes, so much gated content, and so many random trend games that don't really make sense from the developer or gamer standpoint.

I tried Oblivion Remastered, Doom Dark Ages, and the stinky Indiana jones game all for 1 dollar. Whereas, on steam/gog, i have spent way more money because they have game sales.

I didn't really enjoy those game pass games, so after my 1 dollar deal on gamepass ends after 30 days i'll just wait until they throw another coupon at me down the line to try every single new game they dump on there during the "competitive release month" like how september/october are a big time for games like June is.

Dark ages didn't hit like Doom or Doom Eternal because its not really a sequel in the same vein as the previous. Eternal is clearly a distillation of 2016, and hit the maximum amount of speed and twitch gameplay it could. It is surpassed only by Turbo Overkill in that genre.
People wanted to hate on Dark Ages so they pointed at numbers. Gamers don't care about numbers. If a game is pleasing to a general audience, then it will have numbers.

On the other hand the way Mick Gordon was treated makes me glad it wasn't a feather in id's cap.

When it comes to Indy i was really turned off by the director's concept that gunplay is somehow not a part of the Indiana jones experience. I was confused why an indiana jones game is first person, when his hijinks are always nice to view on cinema from a near third person perspective, and because Uncharted was such a success being basically what Indiana Jones is to Doc Savage
