Anyway i guess people were expecting something fresh which led to some people backing away from watching the streams i heard and saw it often. "Oh this looks like apex, the abilities are similar.." etc. Unfortunately without events/lore etc that a finished game would have nothing really sets this game apart as much based on the streams and feedback from people who have played it. There's not many third person extraction shooters out on the market the retro futuristic aesthetic isn't used very often, events on that game are pretty cinematic with the larger machines doing some wild manuvers. They also do some environmental story telling which gives hints to what types of machines are lurking out on the surface which is a page out of the way hell divers handles enemy reveals if marathon can sprinkle some some surprises in the game when it releases then they'll have some solid stuff. Arc raiders in terms of some of the robot designs are kinda similar or remind me of generation zero's robot designs but anyway back to what is different.. in the extraction shooter world there is a lack of games that are third person because the genre is fairly new so that's one thing that makes it different than others on the market. The game feels like what last of us multiplayer felt like and that hasn't been done since the ps3 days. Its not really different at all but since the market is saturated with a specific type of style and perspective and gameplay features doing something even slightly different from the norm is a breath of fresh air.

Look at marvel rivals in comparison to overwatch now. They said okay lets just make smite overwatch lol and immediately stole the show because overwatch people were sick of the same thing over and over especially after being told overwatch 2 would be different.

Anyway marathon does have a ton of lore and will have events apparently that occur but from what we saw its been a repeat hopefully the devs do take the feedback to heart and implement some of the pretty decent ideas that were here before the shitstorm

Imo 3rd person is a very small thing. Like if marathon made a 3rd person mode would it suddenly be different enough to set it apart? To me marathon is doing a lot different already with its gameplay, its much more arcadey compared to others on the market, dare i say more skillfull too after they removed aim assist.
