Artstyles are a generation-spanning collaborative enerprise often attributed to a single person (see: prairie architecture and Frank Lloyd Wright) which is then changed, riffed on, etc. by anywhere from dozens to thousands of others. That person's art, directly, was lifted without her permission and put into a game. It only showed up in the alpha, sure, and there's time to fix it before launch, but what there's -also- time to do is to hire her on as a contractor, or at the very least pay her a fee for the license to use work already used, plus extra to compensate for the fact that it was taken without her consent.

In essence: it is incredibly difficult to execute on a horde mode that actually works and is really fun to interact with. It seems as though it's going to be simple but plenty of examples have shown comprehensively that 'simple' will not always cut it. 'Just spawn PvE enemies, it's fine' just doesn't work; the entire way that their AI works generally needs to be seriously reconfigured, there has to be a feeling of power progression on a round-by-round basis, and generally speaking just going with algorithmic increases (like you'd see in something like Vampire Survivors) just won't keep people's attention in that way; you need to design specific challenges for specific people and loadouts to engage with and overcome, but it's often MUCH less controlled than a PvE-in-the-sense-of-campaign setup might be.

Well they've said themselves that the alpha was a very limited experience to what they're going to release on launch. I don't think they need any delays to get the game completed for the vision that they have (the extraction shooter). But with people expecting single-player stuff and PVE-modes it's a little unrealistic considering how set-in-stone the game is right now from upper-management and financial issues. Bungie's certainly not going to get another major investment/time bump (in the span of years). Best we can hope for is that the extraction-shooter mode is well polished on release.
