i think running solo was the easiest way to like artificially create th risk factor that helped me enjoy the playtest a lot but the actual game feels a bit silly . missing a Core that i thought was present due to that insane trailer but i should have known that was some insane overselling But i will still wait for more

I think movement needs a big overhaul, while maintaining the "stamina economy" of sprinting to cover and then cooling heat before another big burst of movement (I like it like that, but as is it feels a bit too clunky and not smooth)

I think my issue is in the actual movement itself. it feels too stuttery maybe? it's like not precise enough (on pc) while also being so precise that sometimes I overcorrect? and then strafing and dodging in general feels a little sluggish too which limits firefights significantly if you aren't using map knowledge or movement characters (or one of the temp boosts)

They want Marathon to be a progressive improvement system, the game wouldn’t be as fun if you were OP right off the rip. A rewarding system of earning upgrades sounds way more appealing than being cracked out as soon as you load in.

The node upgrades give vast improvements on agility, heat consumption, and pretty much everything else you’ve mentioned that feels clunky

I can see what you mean about dodging and strafing feeling off, but it feels off because of modernized games. Marathon plays more of the style of a game from the early 2010s vs a late 2020 game which is nice, not everything has to feel so fast paced that you’re flying across the map in 0.2 seconds. It gives me a Halo feel to it, and after enough playtime you get adjusted to it. At least it did for me

The point I’m trying to make is that some enjoy a progressive based system in a multiplayer style game. Marathon is very much a gun diff and node upgrades diff kind of game. It’s the style of game that you can outplay a purple scoped AR with a white AR with an iron sight, but you need to have map knowledge and proper game awareness.

Yeah my understanding is seasonal wipes will be inventory wipes as well. Nodes already showed in the alpha that they were seasonal. The alpha surveys did indeed ask for input on how you would feel on losing your gear and everything each season or would you prefer to keep everything

Mainly bc of stuff like meta-knowledge and game sense. newer players just won't know the camp spots, where rats go, etc. Tarkov is a good example bc 20 hours of map experience can be enough to seperate the wannabes from the bonafides and if you put those bonafides next to the wannabes that's just another opportunity for them to become disengaged with the game. SoT has this problem too where new players just don't know the ins and outs like old players and thus usually can't compete. That said, such an environment is fine (SoT for example prides itself as a crucible) if people go into it expecting that (Tarkov is very inaccessible, but new players still try it)

I think level-based matchmaking should be a bit looser than what it seemed like in the alpha, feel like level 100+ will feel fine matching with 40-50 rather than 60+ I don't have numbers for what the actual matchmaking algorithm was though

Like any other game, the only real carry over will be combat and map knowledge. After playing 2 weeks of the alpha it very much feels a seasonal style game where a fresh start will actually be exciting to play. You can get too over leveled after a while, I do hope level resets as well though I agree or it’ll be weird if a level 120 something drops into their first match halfway through a season and gets nuked by purple shields.

Honestly sometimes a sporadic release schedule isn't terrible. I heard a streamer ask a community question to a dev about how seasons will be switching it up between releases because d2 has always had a really solid content schedule, 1 dlc a year 1 season every 3 months typically but formulas got older and wayyy stagnant over time so who knows lol

Isnt it core loop of Extraction shooters? Where you dont know what to expect. Its almost like casino, but instead of money you invest your gear/time. And knowing that youre can meet people that higher skill and gear makes you play safer

Ye ur not wrong, I would just like the odds to be a bit more even. A big beefy gun is one thing, but upgrades that decrease ability refresh and stuff like that is just a pinch too much imo. Especially since marathon is positioning itself to be a bit more casual (for better or for worse). Matchmaking 0 upgrade accounts against maxed company accounts would just be frustrating to people that don't play as regularly

I wouldn't play solo unless you really think you can charm some other pirates into letting you sail with them. As for player population, there are plenty of people playing (I work nights and can still find others in my region, so there shouldn't be a problem there). The main thing is that it's hard to manage a ship by yourself so it helps to bring a friend. I just use the game to chat with/harass anyone I come across though (made plenty of friends like that)
