Hi all, I am after some advice for what a new hunter could do to improve. Since joining they have made progress but I feel like they are hitting a brick wall now without any real big improvements. From my limited knowledge I think the ratio of spells used seem fine but just have a low cast count and damage out put from the spells are on the low side (prob due to gear + poor cd usage).

Stats look good. Talents look good Outside of being sentinel instead of ranger. I don't think they are saving explosive for LnL procs, they are casting Rapid and Aimed a bit too infrequently.

Both can be procs, and can have a high roll scenario but this is still low. Not being Dark ranger is probably fairly significant.

On opener he should be hard casting an aimed a few seconds before the pull timer finished. He is not using his trinket (fun house lens) with his first Trueshot.

He is not always following an explosive with an aimed shot.

Bulletstorm uptime looks maybe a little low despite Streamline being solid, I think.

You can get spotters mark on a target by using a precise shots ability on the same target beforehand.

Hitting that target with aimed shot consumes the mark for bonus damage and grants haste through 'on target'

His on target uptime is very poor so assumedly he is not consuming precise shots well

I'm not sure he used his on-use buff trinket (fun house lens) once

Summary:

  1. Stats looking good
  2. Talents looking fine. However, Dark Ranger would be the better choice
  3. Appears to not be saving explosive for LnL procs
  4. Rapid and Aimed shot casts are low
  5. On opening, should be hard casting aimed shot a few seconds before the pull timer ends
  6. Not using trinket (Fun house lens) with first Trueshot
  7. Appears maybe not using trinket at all

Ensuring tracking of procs/spells and then reacting to those right away should resolve several of these key issues. Updating spec to Dark Ranger will give a good boost as well.

Probably. Iirc Trueshot is OFF the GCD.

It's one of those weird things I know by heart until I log out of wow and totally forget

9-12 are effectively the same thing just small rotational issues and it probably just turns into practicing that

Lock and Load talent: Chance on autos to get a free instant cast aimed shot.

My feedback for sprocketmonger:
Wrong talents.
No 675 crafted weapon.
No embellishments.
Missing gem slots.
Mad queens mandate needs replacing.
Never used funhouse lens.
Is casting explosive shot on cooldown (only use with LnL in ST).
Lots of big gaps between casts, maybe running around dealing with mechanics, but you can maintain dps uptime with experience in this fight.
Lots of little gaps between casts, indicating maybe hesitancy/unfamiliarity with rotation/not queuing next ability before finishing a cast.
