I've been really curious to play dnd for a while now but just don't have the irl group of friends for it

we were playing irl but moved online and only play once or twice per yer in person. its just way more flexible with time and scheduling seeing as we're scattered throughout our region a bit (its like 2/3h for two of the group at least). Covid also made a lot of ppl try online dnd. And my personal recommendation is FoundryVTT works like a charm and has a lot of community support.

we switched away from it mostly cause you really need a subscription for the main features and creating your own stuff is tedious

foundry its 50€ for a license you can selfhost or deploy to your server/a cloud provider and then you got all the options. if you guys havent subscribed to r20 yet and get hooked on online dnd I can really recommend it

we are not subscribed, using free version. but to be fair this is just a short little campaign to test things out. I suspect if we go deeper, it'll make sense to get a premium something something

dndbeyond is decent but you kinda have to pay for every little thing aswell. and its harder (from my experience to set up your own maps/content)

if you are running everything by the books dndbeyond is good and defo better than r20

I also heard good things about alchemy

neat thing about dndbeyond is its more than a vtt. Kinda has everything integrated into it so you don't have to use other tools to make tokens etc. Also the journal system is pretty good

I went Fighter (dps/cc) - Paladin (tank/support) - Priest (buf/heal) - Wizard (nuke)

i did feel like i needed the double frontline in most of the game, the game throws a lot of units at you at times and they can really shred your backline
