Hello everyone, how do u guys approach item selection in your vaults? Just 100% follow best simmed item?

I did sim my vault options from this week and it boils down to 421 Whispering Incarnate Icon or 421 head tierpiece (with socket).

But since the 2 options r fairly close to each other, I'm afraid to just pick the highest simm and actually not be the right choice.

I have a 411 head tier piece and algethar puzzle box 415 + controlled current 408.

I'm mainly playin BM this season but was MM on Shadowlands.

It's good to account for what's harder to obtain, what might be replaced, and what could be "bis" when it comes to vault picks

If I see a piece that I know will likely not be replaced until the tier ends I lean towards picking that one, even if it's not the highest simming

#

Else you'll run into the loop of always picking sockets over 3 ilvl upgrades since the socket "sims higher"

I dont play bm, so I'm not gonna give any insight into what's actually the right pick for your situation

Honestly didn't occur to me that the headpiece simms better mainly thanks to the gem socket, i'll pay more attention next time.

So easier item to get: The headpiece fits that criteria since i can obtain 3 +20 vaults and I'm not a mythic raider (just do the first 2 mythic bosses to have 1 mythic raid vault).

On the other hand, I checked the trinket simms on bloodmallet and for it to be better then my current algethar 415 I need a healer+tank or healer with it in my group, otherwise it really looses its value compared to algethar.

Don't get me wrong, sockets aren't bad to be accounting for. When I brought up sockets originally I'm talking about picking the 6 coins in lieu of the available items to buy a socket upgrade for one of your current pieces

But if the 421 helm already has a socket that's not a bad thing or a "fake" upgrade

A big consideration with trinkets is that an on use will probably sim higher than reality unless you are 100% hitting it at the right time every time. A passive trinket effect requires no input from you so it’s worth considering a passive that sims slightly lower unless you’re confident on your efficiency using an on use trinket.

This is why I switch to windswept pages at 415 items level and controlled turret 408 heroic and I keep my 411 manic as backup manic is such a good drink it, but overall the longevity windswept pages deliver so much haste that cannot be ignored

Head+socket at this ilvl would be much harder to obtain than icon(for which you could roll the dice each week by pugging first two bosses on mythic).

In addition, it is already simming better. So, it's a safe pick.

As for the use trinket comments, yes, they would require you to know when to use them in order to maximize the gain. But if you can't properly understand that, you likely can't grasp your spec that well either which would mean you just need to get better. And the better you are, the better use trinkets will be so don't stay away from them - their value will increase with your experience.

Let's close the page on this as in the very least, it's wrong to have such a discussion within a topic to which OP got their answer.

Denjo, you've been going around the help section giving misleading advice. Please, double check your own comments before posting.

In the case we got here, you insist on pages being bis(which btw has absolutely nothing to do with OP's question) and claim the guide as the source of this information. Had you yourself checked the Wowhead guide(since that's the one arranging trinkets in tier lists) you would have noticed pages is not in S tier for neither BM nor MM.

Don't start arguments for no reason in the wrong place and make sure you actually are helping people in the help section. Be better.
