I kind of don’t really mind magnus’ cryptic tweet or even any insinuation he made that Neimann was cheating. Granted, I’m not saying it’s a good thing to throw accusations around, but being as objective as possible, it’s probably incredibly daunting to be the highest rated player in the computer age. When everyone has the ability to use engines—even if it’s very quick and only to check one specific position—the paranoia can certainly mount on someone who is expected to win nearly every game he plays. So when he loses—to a non super gm at that—it’s a natural thought for him to believe something less than above board is going on. Do I actually think Niemann cheated? No, he just played exceptional chess. But you have to understand that he’s like 200 rating lower than magnus (or was before the games) and for a random gm, even one in the top 100, to beat magnus is very surprising.
When you’re the king, the only question people have is how long will you hold the crown.

Totally disagree that it's acceptable for Magnus to drop a bomb like that and potentially ruin Hans' career with nothing but a vague, unsubstantiated insinuation of cheating.
As for Hans' chess in that game, most commentators agree he played good but not extraordinarily good, and Magnus didn't play a great game

My older friend who used to go to the chess clubs irl way back told me a little anecdote about gm yasser seirawan. Basically he was really smart, really good at chess obv, but also he was very well composed and could hold a conversation. One day, yasser beat someone despite giving him room odds, and someone who was. astounded said yasser is gonna be the next world champ. And then another gm turned to the person who said that and said “no, he’s too well-adjusted” (meaning he’s too normal). This isn’t true for everyone, but many top level gms have very strange personalities or some form of mental illness to go along with their play, and I don’t think magnus is any different. He’s probably on the spectrum to some degree and losing is just so absurd to him that his outburst seemed like a natural response

carokann is never unplayable. its one of the most resilient replies to e4. There are very particular lines where black has to be resourceful and give up an exchange for counterplay, but even in those positions, black is said to be equal.
The only times I personally dislike the carokann is when, through a very specific move order, white prevents me from developing my lsb. One of the key aspects of the carokann that separates it from many of black's e4 replies is that the lsb is usually free very early, and can trade very early. In one particular line of the carokann that is not the case, and black feels a little choked
But that line has been played to death and most people dont enter it as white because they know its a theoretical draw

White doesn't have a whole lot to play for, usually will try to make a kingside attack happen, but if black defends well, its fine.

Well, let's actually use this as an educational example. f7 is super fucking weak so it's regularly attacked. This bishop+knight attack is actually the base of the fried liver attack. Easiest way to defend is to block the middle with your d pawn which would cut my bishop.

Rd5, only reasonable follow-up for black that I see is Qa1, hide on h2 from that, Bd6 check, take it with the rook, queen checks again on e5 forking the rook, cover with Qg3 to defend it, queen exchange. Game settles down to 2 rooks vs rook and knight which is winning for white but can still be lost to a blunder.
