I caved in and bought dragonflight and 2 months of game time just so I could play with my friends while waiting for D4 season, Baldur's Gate 3 and PoE season
totally worth the money though while downtime, also probably won't stress the D4 season that much since the endgame haven't changed and game will probably become boring at lvl 70 something again

Imo PoE does melee in terms of mechanic and playstyle really good, it's just the scaling is so damn awful compared to spells
I really like how the slam skills work, but the strike skills falls behind because you can't really make use of the war cries
And slam skills gets carried by war cries
And totem buffs make melee feel so fucking clunky
Glacial Hammer was real fun once you got some AS going

Problem is the tuning I think. Like for real melee you need to be in well, melee and face tank stuff. So either you have insane survivability or you get popped at random all the time.
Unless you just build enough aoe that things around you and far away dies.
Actually not sure how you would do a "true" melee build that is not playing like a almost ranged build that pops the screen and that would not be garbage.

Agree, tuning and removing mandatory warchief/protector totems for melee would fix melee - mechanic and playstyle wise I enjoy sitting in the face on mobs and just dodge their attacks or stun/freeze them
The biggest issue as well is that warstaff is the only weapon that you can really scale melee in an easy way right now and you gotta waste so many points going up north in the tree

By now I know what I enjoy and I pick a strong build that is starter viable and can do everything in the game. That's how I decide.

for Trade I pick a starter build that can blast maps/legions and can be scaled for cheap so I can hoard currency to swap to a blaster build after 4ish days or so

I just know that I want to play melee, I've learned how to make a melee build SSF viable and how to scale it decently, been doing it for like 3-4 leagues now.
I find it way easier to scale slow slam builds than strike builds.
Survivability has been the biggest challenge for me to learn how to layer it

depends on the build but blight is fun to blast for a few days before moving out of it. With group find i can blast it a bit longer so we have a solid stack of high tier oils.
Also depends a bit on the build I might play. Anything that prolifs or explodes pretty much.
we also ideally organize who farms which altars etc, we can make a bit more plans in a few weeks, without being anal about it
