Champ is the most balanced ascendancy imo. Best defensives, high damage on shit gear due to Adrenaline early on and proccing it reliably, it's fast enough by scaling onslaught a bit, Perseverance won't be cheap but easily a day 1 unique and its still 7aps on shite gear

my main concern and why i'm not starting it is that I think it relies more on Helix than I like for longer than I like (i'm gonna be off it on my LS Champ by white maps unless i'm extremely unlucky), and that I think it requires more gear to get going and also to get your survivability to a good point.

swapping back to Helix and respeccing your ascendancy to kill early bosses sounds like absolute pain

I'd probably go for Far Shot on my first lab, which will make leveling sick on Deadeye with Helix, and delay swapping to VG until maps at least, probably a bit longer.
