This is a small beetle that only grows up to 3-4 cm. It is known for its very shiny exoskeleton. The colours are not mainly from pigments but from microscopic surface structures that reflect light. My idea bases around the jewel beetle's reflective iridescent scales and light based abilities.
This beetle will be an attacking beetle with high reversal potential but also supportive capabilities.
Passive: shedding scales
After using any ability, the beetle gains a mild speed boost due to losing weight. Can be stacked from using 2 abilities consecutively. duration refreshes upon stack allowing for more technical ability usage. has no cooldown/ uses.
On ball ability: light-piercing dash
A held dash ability where the jewel beetle phases through walls and other beetles. The held time increase the distance travelled. The ability uses up a recharging resource that is indicated visually by glimmering scales that closely orbit the beetle.
Has a minimum charge of a third of the bar to avoid spam from passive stacking
while being held, scales vibrate around the jewel beetle's elytra to indicate a pushing motion and after being used afterimages are created for a few seconds to tie into the beetles light based kit.
Off ball ability: photonic defence
The jewel beetle deploys a swarm of twinkling scales that orbit the selected beetle that stop stuns/ disruptions (headbutts, firefly explosions, rhino stuns). automatically used on the jewel beetle but can be cast again to quickly fly towards a teammate and support them.
scales orbit the recipient of the shield and form small bright triangular prisms that are constantly shifting and changing links. Small swarm flutters towards
