Players cannot set the employee salaries. The salaries seem largely random.
In effect, this looks like a punitive action to players who were shrewd in their hiring choices.
So whenever this random event happens, will the player have to pay that employee a higher hourly wage indefinitely?
I think if this were implemented as is, without any other additions to the game where you have some control over of some type to how much you paid your employees... yes, it is punitive towards players being shrewed; though to be fair, I'd argue that shrewd decisions in general seems never to come without conseuqnces or stipulations.
That said... I have hired a lot of workers with better stats and many have just happened to ask for a lower salary, so my park would likely be vulnerable to this event.
I had some ideas over negotiating pay, raises, or promotions... but I felt like that would usually be for a seperate thread.
Actually, I don't see a single existing thread specifically centered on employee wages or pay.
Oh...
So if we don't pick the more expensive of two employees when we select which one to hire, we'll have to pay more down the road?
I would imagine that many players would simply quit and reload the day if they came across a Strike Day event.
I'd think that players would want an incentive to play along with a strike.
No, that's good. That means this is the first one. Future ideas on this topic will link to you.
That's true, but you could say the same thing about the seagull flock days in terms of gameplay... ... I've actually quit the game for the day when encountering those, then would load the game only to see the seagull flock gone.
I suppose there should be some sort of funny antics or scenes to keep players wanting to play through the day to see what happens.
I understand where you're coming from, but seagull flocks are a windfall of XP cleaning up all that poo.
Maybe the workers could improve with the strike (if you agree to it)? Like a leveling up, sort of?
I'm a bit surprised that there isn't a 'promotion/raise/stats up' mechanic already; I agree the stike might make for a good point to bring up such a dialogue at day's end.
Yeah. Because if that's the case, this is essentially an event where you can improve existing employees rather than the current model, which is a fire-old-hire-better kind of model.

Actually, someone mentioned employee leveling up with skill points or money here:
