World Map Inverted. Land is ocean and oceans is land. Some minor edits to make all water ways connect by making the north slightly higher on a gradient. The water is basically the continental shelfs. Tectonic plate joints are rivers.

A better example of the land height after adjusments.

Love how europe just gets cut off

You mean the Euro Sea? 😉

In testing I found splitting the pacific to be less stable. Too much green/land on one side. Settled on this. Pacific centered counterbalanced by the cropped Atlanic and the extended area around India. I could try the other way, but think it would be less stable. Im actually going to get some help determining that.

This layout highlights the unique features instead of your brain just seeing the regular Americas West and Asia East. I also considered water way access in this decision.

Here's a cropped edit that better shows how I'm visualizing balancing the regions. This after some test with bots to map out the normal flow of the maps progression.

Strongest in the Center because the monkey in the middle will often get crushed.
Opposing sides (East and West) need to be about equal in power.
West is longer when attacked by Center. East is wider when attack by Center. Different tactics and access ways.
North will be mostly mountains and act as the great equalizer. Hard to take and killer of kings.
Mediterranean Islands offers access to between West and North like the other areas have.
East has greatest access to North balancing out threat from Center.

Mediterranean isles will probably almost always result in an island man

#

Majority of wins will most likely come from the center. Wins from the sides will happen but the pacific will be a large hotspot

So far I've set about 100 nations. Mostly geographic structure related. Also adding in the names of famous sunken ships and maybe the oceans/seas themselves as filler for blank spots. Im intentionlly doing to many and will leave the extra as secondary nations.

Here's what a 'normal' world map would look like.

#

The map is shifted a little to the left. This changes the land into a Large East and Large West. With the West Middle and East Middle getting crushed IMHO.

#

In this 'normal' format the Atlantic landmass is at a disadvantage to the West Pacific thats up against the maps edge. In the Pacific Centered formatted this is inverted with the smaller Atlantic being given the edge advantage.

Pacific centered is more balanced for teams, normal i feel is better for FFA. Your choice, i like either option

halcyon hawk
#

I would prefer overall more balanced with teams. Also the map just looking different.

#

I could always change it later. Not that Id want too do all that work lol

Respect for adding more than 62. Thats usually where i cap 😅

#

(62 is the max number of nations for Human vs Nations)

halcyon hawk
#

Honestly its more so because I have blank spots on the map. I'm over filling and then any nations near each other I will keep one and turn the other into a random location spawn.

#

I wont use all of these. Most important is at the top. This is also an exercise like trying to add 2-7 teams on Labyrinth.

halcyon hawk
# honest ravine Majority of wins will most likely come from the center. Wins from the sides will...

Another philophy I've been considering is the idea that there is a healthy 'range' of imbalnce any map can have. I read a post somewhere showing numbers/digits for each map (cant find it now) as too how balanced they were. I can't remember what figures they used. Seperately @nova lotus posted this recently. I hope they can add a third color (maybe yellow) to represent the mid range more clearly.

I see this include the updated Luna map. For Luna FFA looks fair, but teams is way imbalanced. Im totaly willing to beleive thats a product of the map itself; like how the north is small landmasses. However I also have a suspicion that this could be left over player behvior from the original version of the map. Back before I fixed the actual pixel count imbalance. If a dominate clan like UN all dog piles on the bottom/far side the other team will naturally go north.

Still looking over this data.

Maybe teams games can be balanced by adding spawn zones. I recently experimend with 'clustered' teams spawns. I know they only apply to bots, but the spawn time is like a mini-vote game. A cluster of your team (even if just bots) all in one area will attract others to the empty area around them.

Are additional nation bots usually added to teams games when the lobbies are full? No right? Maybe there should be sprinkle of them to direct players. Idk if that would work.

honest ravine
#

I dont think nations spawn in team games at all

halcyon hawk
#

I thought if the lobby doesnt fill it does, but I never really checked.

halcyon hawk
#

Placed nations. A lot of these will be made secondary, but this is me trying to fill the map with the data I have. End goal is ~60 nations with maybe 150+ secondaries.

#

All nations named after sunken ships will have their registered national flags at time of sinking. Or as close as I can get.
