I envision 2 ways this could be implemented

  • This would be enabled on specific maps (World, Pangea, Mars)
  • This would be enabled on all maps
I'm not sure which one of the two I prefer so I'd appreciate feedback
  • This would only affect trade ships and warships. Not invasion transports because it'd be too confusing to defend against.

Basically let trade ships swim from one side to the world border to the other.
It would have two modes

  • Horizontally. If the ship swims into the border at east or west map border it simply appears at the same Y coordinate but the opposite X coordinate. Ie. assuming the map is 1800 tiles wide, the ship swims into border at 0:260, appears at 1800:260
  • Vertically. If the ship swims into the border at the top or bottom of the map it'll appear the the same Y coordinate but the opposite X coordinate. Ie. assuming the map is 1800 tiles wide, the ships swims into the border at 100:0, it reappears at 1700:0

One the side of game logic, the binaries would need to be updated with new data, showing where the boats cannot sail around the world due to there being solid land on the other side

Not a bad idea

This has been brought up countless times, though not for trade ships specifically.

#

Apparently in an earlier version of the game, you actually could move across the sides of the map like in the real world, but they accidentally broke that feature.

#

They say they might bring it back but it's not high on their list of priorities.

I don't understand...

yeah thats why I think this should be for tradeships only
its clearly a bit too confusing for warships & transports to have this

okay maybe warships too then

#

but I still believe a naval invasion looping around the world would be too confusing (and potentially give you too little time to react)
