other quests I do with the same required adventurer rating as these trial expeditions take me less than 2 minutes to clear, but even when I exceed the rating and im given the option to skip them the hunt takes so long that I time out. why do these monsters take so long to kill compared to other monsters at the same rating? am I missing something?
#impossible trials?

you are missing the actual builds that increase damage, or the skill to actually do damage
rating isn't accurate because there are still armor skills, set effect, illustrations that contribute to your actual damage
if you have that set up properly, then its just your hands
the difference here isnt "skill issue"
I take down fights at the same rating as these trials thrice as fast
especially on pepper, my dps uptime is nearly 100%
im saying the scaling of the monsters stats in these trials must be multiples above the scaling for monsters in other quests with identical ratings
that or theres a mechanic specifically for trials that im not aware of
master arena and ranked marathon has higher scaling but I don't think trial does afaik
at least I can do all trials super fast
right but im saying that the trials arent congruent to different quests with identical rating
then I guess it is scaled harder because there are other content that scales harder
Yes monster hp around those stages really start ramp up. Like stage 15 and on. The rating the game suggests is too low. You want to focus on getting maxed on illustrations on your main dps. Then things will start dying very quickly again.
illustrations is where I should focus first, got it
thank you thats a much bigger help
see i was confused because the trials menu says if your adventurer rating exceeds the recommendation you can just skip it and claim the rewards. but the moment I ran into a trials hunt that I just barely didnt qualify to auto-complete, it was impossible to take down within the time limit despite using Pepper against a normal Great Girros, maybe the easiest match up in the game.
question about illustrations, if im not planning to spend real money on resources, should I save my illustration upgrading material for when I can kit my hunters out with 4~5 large monster illusts, or should I go ahead and start upgrading despite most of my hunters being kitted with vespoids and kestadons for the sake of set bonuses and little else
You dont want to go hard farming illustrations or rolls until you can reliably get gold ones. Do level up some purples for you main dps in the meantime though. So for Pepper get water attack on the 4 point illustration and level that to 20. Affinity or crit ele on some 3 point illustrations. Ele att on 1 pointers.
Otoh, the beta is probably ending in a week or so, so I wouldn't worry about decisions too much
reasonable
Yes for whatever reason this stage is way harder than any other stage. I would recommend to just higher your power to skip it. Should be easy with some gear upgrades
